Can I put my modem in another room?
How to determine if you can move your modem to another room
- Check the back of the modem to see what type of connection it uses.
- After you determine what type of Internet you have, look for that type of connection in other rooms in your home.
- If you can find the right type of connector in the room where you want to put your modem, you can try moving it there.
- You can leave the modem in place if the internet connection works after the move.
- Otherwise, your best bet would be to try a different port (probably in a different room).
How to move a modem to another room
- Turn off or unplug the modem.

- Take the modem to its new location.
- Reconnect your modem to a coaxial port or phone jack and reconnect any other devices such as your router.
- Reconnect the modem to the power supply and switch it on if necessary.
- Check that the modem is connecting and that the connection speed and quality are satisfactory.
