The French woman Chantal Compagnon is the wife of serial killer Charles Sohbraj.
She was born in 1945 in Paris and belongs to a very conservative catholic family. Chantal first relationship with Charles.
How Chantal met with Charles?
In 1969 Chantal met Charles at a celebration party. Where Charles told himself that he was a rich man from Saigon and detailed her about his adventures within East and Dakar. Then when Charles proposed Chantal, he was arrested for an accusation of automotive theft.
Chantal’s parents were not in agreement to marry her daughter to Charles; however, Charles manages to convince them by showcasing his wealth that he built up by doing series of scams. And after eight months of imprisonment, he was released from jail soon they together tie the knot.
By drawing fake documents, they both fled away from France for Asia in 1970, that time Chantal was pregnant with Charles’s child. Together with Charles Chantal looted tourists. After reaching Mumbai, India in 1970 they decided to start a new series of criminal activities. Soon their daughter named Usha Sohbraj was born and the couple decided to send her to Chantal’s parents to under the care them.
Charles in to Arm Smuggling
Charles could not stop there he continued crime with smuggling companies. Later, they went to Kabul in 1971. Charles then indulges himself in arms smuggling and Chantal was so mad in love she accompanies him. Chantal wanders from place to place along with Charles. In 1973, Charles was arrested from Ashoka Hotel, Delhi for unsuccessful arm loot at the Jewellery shop at Hotel and held at Tihar Jail.
After almost 14 days later Charles fakes appendices pain and take out him to the hospital from where he escaped by drugging guards. They went to Kabul and started looting the tourists on the hippie path between Europe and East Asia. Then they were arrested by Afgan police and jailed. From there, Charles manages to escape and flew to France to take his daughter return to Afgan for free Chantal. Then Charles solo left for Iran. And Chantal decided to cut all the ties with Charles.
Netflix series The Serpent
Their case came into the limelight because on the life of Charles Sohbraj, BBC One and Netflix together to produce a series called ‘The Serpent”.In the series, Chantal’s role named ‘Juliette Voclain,’ was performed by the English-French actress Stacy Martin.
From his previous relationship with Chantal Desnoyers, Charles has two children one named Muriel Anouk and a boy Pranck.
