Charli D’Amelio and Mark Ballas are ‘thrilled’ to win on ‘Dancing with the Stars’.
Page Six spoke to the dance duo moments after they were announced as the new mirror ball champions during Monday’s season 31 finale.
“It was crazy, just amazing,” D’Amelio, 18, told us in the ballroom, holding a shiny new trophy in her hand. “Everything happened so fast that I don’t even know how I feel yet.”
For his latest dance number – a freestyle to “Us Again” by Pinara Toprak – the TikTok star and 36-year-old Ballas decided to keep set pieces to a minimum and focus on choreography.
Apparently, their strategy worked, defeating fellow competitors Gabby Windey and Val Chmerkovskiy, Wayne Brady and Witney Carson, and Shangel and Gleb Savchenko.
“It’s funny, I have a music folder on my phone that I’d like to create something for. I haven’t been on the show in a while had a little link to this songexplained Ballas, who returned as a pro this year for the first time since Season 25.
“It’s from the Disney short film “Us Again.” And I was like, “If I ever come back to the show, use this song.” So I went back and auditioned it, and when I listened to it, I could see it from beginning to end.”
Ballas told Page Six that he felt it was the perfect last song for him and D’Amelio, as they “have become like a family” over the past few months.
“I had a great time. I think I learn something new every week,” enthused D’Amelio, reflecting on her journey and what she learned the most about herself while on the show.
“From actual dance moves to learning to perform and just learning to rehearse. There are so many different things we’ve been working on that I just couldn’t narrow it down to one or even a few things.”
In addition to all the fans who voted for her on Monday night, D’Amelio had plenty of support at the live ballroom.
Boyfriend Landon Barker sat in the front row with dancer’s sister Dixie D’Amelio and father Mark D’Amelio, while mom Heidi D’Amelio – who competed with Artem Chigvintsev – returned to dance in the all-star finale.
“I am incredibly proud of her. I miss her so much and look forward to spending more time with her,” Dixie, 21, told Page Six after Charli’s win. “She did amazing. She worked so hard and I’m so proud of her.”
Marc also chimed in, telling us he was “just very happy” to see his youngest daughter dancing again and pursuing her passion.
“She grew up dancing. It’s in her heart, it’s in her blood. It’s very important to her,” he said, referring to Charli’s confession that she fell in love with the hobby among the criticism from TikTok fame.
“For her to come back to that, at this stage and win it, it’s amazing for her.”
