Creed frontman Scott Stapp writes about leaving his opponent ‘with dignity’ after his wife Jaclyn files for divorce
Scott Stapp posted a cryptic message about leaving his opponent “with dignity” after his wife Jaclyn Stapp filed for divorce.
On Saturday, the 50-year-old Creed frontman shared TD Jakes’ speech on his Instagram Stories.
“Speak without offending, listen without defensiveness and always leave your opponent with dignity,” said the 66-year-old pastor.
Scott’s news came a day after TMZ reported that his wife of 18 years of marriage had filed to end their relationship.
“Out of respect for his family, Scott intends to navigate this difficult period privately,” a representative for the musician told People magazine.
According to court records reviewed by Page Six, the couple’s split was years in the making, as Jaclyn, 43, had already filed for divorce against Scott in June 2022.
The beauty queen’s application was later withdrawn, but the “One Last Breath” singer filed to end her marriage in May 2023.
A source told People, “Scott and Jaclyn called it quits, but they were still trying to make it work.”
Jaclyn and Scott married in February 2006 after meeting at the Muscular Dystrophy Association gala in New York.
They have three children: daughter Mia (17 years old) and sons Daniel (13 years old) and Anthony (6 years old).
The rock star is also the father of Jagger’s 25-year-old son with his first wife, Hilaree Burns.
During his marriage to Jaclyn, Scott was diagnosed with bipolar disorder after abusing prescription drugs, alcohol, and marijuana.
“I had a psychotic break,” he previously told People. “I was delusional. I thought an angel was sitting on the hood of my car. I grew a beard to look like Jesus. I threatened to have the Secret Service knock on my door. My behavior has become dangerous.”
The model said she watched her husband “die a slow, painful public death”, adding that she was “terrified”.
Their split comes as he prepares to tour with his band Creed again for the first time in 12 years.
