Former Keller Police Officer Blake Shimanek rose to fame for his role in the pepper spraying and subsequent arrest of a father who videotaped his son’s traffic stop. Before retiring, the officer was demoted two ranks and removed from the service.

A police officer stopped Dillon Puente in August 2020 in the Riverdance neighborhood while he was on his way to his grandmother’s house. When Dillon was stopped and asked to stop filming, his father Marco Puente followed him to his grandmother’s house.

Shimanek tells Marco Puente he will be arrested if he stops his truck on the street, according to bodycam video. Marco moved his car as instructed and began recording his son’s arrest on his phone.

Bodycam footage shows the officer asking Dillon to get out of his car before handcuffing him. Shimanek then instructs Officer Ankit Tomer to arrest Marco as well.

Shimanek then threw Marco to the ground, attempted to arrest him and pepper splattered his face.

Charges Against Blake Shimanek – What Did He Do?

Blake Shimanek was charged with official suppression in connection with an arrest last summer in which another officer gave the go-ahead for pepper spraying a father who was recording his son’s obstruction.

Blake was indicted by a Tarrant County grand jury on Friday. According to the indictment, the victim was unlawfully arrested and intentionally mistreated.

The public expressed their disapproval of the situation. Brad Fortune, the Keller Police Chief, said there was “significant disappointment and regret.” Brad apologized for the circumstance.

Shimanek was promoted following an internal investigation. He left the police department in February. Officials claimed that the officer who pepper sprayed the father was only following orders and therefore was not prosecuted.

Blake not only lost his job as a result of this incident, but also received harsh criticism. Shimanek was found guilty when bodycam video was released.

Blake Shimanek Wiki

According to a recorded Keller complaint about Dillon Puente, who was 22 and making a wide right turn, Blake Shimanek was looking for him. On August 15, 2020, Dillon was dependent on his grandmother’s house to fix the cooling system in his car. Shimanek asked him to stop because the police probation vehicle was chasing him. The incident quickly became more serious and the officer has now been formally removed from his position as a result of the unethical attack. Former Texas Keller Cop Sgt. Blake Shimanek was rebuked for assaulting Dillon Puente and his father.

Blake chased after Dillon’s car as it made a wider right turn at the intersection and recorded the incident in a diary. Dillon attempted to raise the car’s windows as the officer walked towards the front window, which the officer took as an insult. At the time, Blake asked Dillon to open the window, questioning his specific actions. Dillon made no further comments in response. Blake then asked Dillon to get out of the car, and when Dillon’s father spotted them on the opposite sidewalk, he handcuffed him.

Dillon informed him that the officer had him in custody for adjusting the vehicle windows on them while driving, and that Dillon’s father filmed the arrest. Blake didn’t like this approach, so in a fit of rage he went after his father and managed to subdue him as well by pepper spraying him. Officers did not respond to Dillon’s father’s calls for help as the group was placed in the back seats of the police vehicle. He asked for help to remove the pepper spray from his eyes. However, officers did not respond to his screams. The entire police department was sued over the attack and officer Blake was arrested for his role in the inappropriate attack against the Puente family. In addition, the head of Keller’s department apologized for the incident and demoted Blake from his role as an agitator.
