“Driftmark” (Season 1 Episode 7) By House of the Dragon: Recap & Review

Laena’s funeral opens House of the Dragon episode seven. Everyone expressed their sadness at his passing, and Targareyn and Velaryon both joined in. Aegon looked impatient as Daemon interrupted the conversation with a manic giggle.

Rhaenyra speaks to her son after lowering Laena’s coffin into the water with ropes, reminding him of her location and the importance of House Velaryon. One of Daemon’s two sons held out a hand to Jace as they approached each other; it was a sweet gesture. As for Daemon, he’s obviously crazy and gives Rhaenyra some terrifying stares.

As the night wears on, Viserys sleeps alone without Alicent, and Corlys punishes his son for being lost and crying in the middle of the ocean. After that, he talks to his side about the history of the Driftmark and who will inherit it. Corlys was reminded that “Rhaenyra’s offspring are not of your blood.” “History doesn’t remember blood, it remembers names,” he replied.

Outside, as Rhaenyra walks alongside the Daemon on the shore, all of Corlys’ suspicions are confirmed. He admitted that he wasn’t happy with Laena, but he was with Ser Harwin. Rhaenyra mourns that Daemon has left her, and the two share a kiss as the waves gently crash against the shore. Rhaenyra whispered, “I want you.” The two engage in sexual activity.

Aemond creates pandemonium on the rest of the beach. Vhagar, Laena’s orphaned dragon, sees for himself. He sneaked closer and tried to ride it. He was nearly scalded as the creature rejected the fire deep within it and was completely dwarfed by the presence of this majestic being.

However, Aemond manages to tame the dragon and leads it on a long tour around the castle. The amount of noise it makes wakes up everyone in the castle, including Baela and Rhaena. They each approached Jace, and when he appeared, they all dismounted and began beating Aemond.

As one of Daemon’s sons must claim the dragon, this explosive concoction explodes in a riot of pandemonium. Luke had his nose broken, while Aemond had his eye cut out. Lord Corlys also appears as Viserys orders a collective silence in the hall.

The two women at its core, Alicent and Rhaenyra, often bump into each other like mothers on a playground. The future of the Kingdom is at stake in this situation, which is different. Aemond is tasked with identifying the source of these rumors about Rhaenyra’s bastard offspring. and after giving Alicent a thorough look, he mentioned Aegon. “Everyone is aware. Just watch them. replied Aegon.

Viserys had it and ordered everyone to stop their bickering and make amends. “That’s not enough.” As payment for the damage done, Alicent decided that taking out one of Rhaenyra’s children’s eyes would be a fair punishment.

Alicent orders Criston Cole to oversee and carry out the King’s orders when Viserys refuses. He grabs a sword and charges at the kids as soon as he hesitates.

And now they see you for what you are, Rahenyra grabs her old friend and pulls her back. He slapped Rhaenyra’s wrist, bloodied the ground, and howled furiously about how unfair it was for Rhaenyra to do as she pleased and not do what was required.

The tension finally subsided as Aegon insisted that a fair trade had been made. Even though he lost his eye, he now has a dragon. The issue has been resolved.

After all this, Otto returns to his role as Hand of the King. After the event in the hallway, he approaches Alicent and expresses his admiration for her. He went on to say that they were playing an unpleasant game and that perhaps his reaction actually helped their cause. He assures her that Viserys will forgive her and they will succeed together. Now that they had a dragon, Viserys would surely forgive Alicent. Otto advised his son to be patient.

As for Rhaenyra, the Maester has fixed her up and is now talking to Laenor. He acknowledges that he failed them and blames the Gods for creating him this way. Rhaenyra grinned and told him that rarely happened, calling him a noble man with a good heart.

Laenor decides to redouble her efforts, however, and continues to be his wife. He knew it was the best thing he could do for Rhaenyea and the kingdom when he saw the target painted on his back. Although grateful, Rhaenyra had other thoughts.

Rhaenyra approaches Daemon and recommends that they cement their relationship properly. As Aegon the Conqueror had once done, he wanted to combine their blood to claim Daemon as his wife and Prince Consort. This can only be done if Laenor dies.

Ser Qarl was killed by Daemon at his expense. They discover their last child burning in the fire as the action shifts from their argument to Lord Colys’s arrival in the hall. are they different?

A deft reveal reveals a still alive, bald Laenor whom Ser Qarl manages to chase out of the area. This hits two birds with one stone and gives Laenor some closure as she daydreams about the Stepstones and is looking for a way out.

The final scene of the episode shows Rhaenyra and Daemon getting married as their children look on.

The Episode Review

The union of Daemon and Rhaenyra will surely stun the entire kingdom. In addition to making the Corlys want to retaliate, this will probably end the first season in a big war. There are a lot of moving parts in this situation, and Aemond’s theft of the dragon was the first trigger.

Alicent’s children clearly share her disposition, and at the end of the day Rhaenyra realizes she needs to back up her claim if she wants to have any meaningful influence in the world.

Laenor actually being alive and getting what she’s always wanted—an escape—provides a nice twist at the end. He no longer worries about continuing his family’s legacy or producing children, and this seeming agreement he reaches with Rhaenyra represents a turning point in the narrative.

Next week’s series finale should be a really dramatic event, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a few more deaths along the way.
