DWTS judge Len Goodman announces retirement after 17 years
Len Goodman says goodbye to “Dancing With the Stars” after 31 seasons as a judge.
Years of presence revealed in the Monday episode of the dance competition shows that he will not be returning in season 32.
“While we’re all excited and looking forward to the final next week, it would also be a bit of a sadness and it will be my last season judging” Dancing with the Stars, “the 78-year-old said.
“I have been on the show since its inception in 2005 and it was a great pleasure to be part of such a great program, but I have decided that I want to spend more time with my children and family.”
He continued, “I can’t thank the Dancing with the Stars family enough, it’s been such a great experience for me and I’m looking forward to next week’s finals, I’m sure it’s going to be absolutely brilliant.”
Following an emotional announcement, the ballroom expert, known for his fierce criticism, received a standing ovation – and praise online.
“We may not always agree with everything he says, but he’s a dance legend. He helped create the show it is today with Carrie Ann and Bruno. Hats off to Mr. Len Goodman for this amazing legacy on this show. Hope he enjoys his retirement. ” one fan tweeted next to the gif of a judge in the crown.
“All that I really choked. You’re sometimes grumpy, but you’re a Len Goodman legend! ” another person tweeted.
“Len Goodman announces that he is leaving dancing with the stars … not okay” the third called at with a crying meme.
While fourth added, “LEN GOODMAN COMING OUT OF DWTS IS THE WORST I’ve Heard ALL DAY.”
Goodman started out as the head judge of the original British version of DWTS titled “Strictly Come Dancing.”
He evaluated the show for the first 20 seasons before taking a break for seasons 21 and 29. However, he was an integral part of each season in between.
Former professional dancer – who now lives in Kent, England – said the People that making a show became “more challenging” as he grew up.
“I haven’t fallen asleep or started dribbling on the show yet, so I figured it was best to go before I start doing it!” he was joking.
“I will miss the Californian sun working with my fellow judges and camaraderie with all the participants in the program,” he continued. “I will miss seeing celebrities become dancers and I will miss being part of one of the world’s most successful TV shows.”
