Eileen Ryan, the legendary actress and mom of Sean Penn, has died at the age of 94
Eileen Ryan died on Sunday at the age of 94 at her home in Malibu, California, a spokesman for the famous star family said on Monday.
She would be 95 this month.
Additional information, including the cause and method of her death, was not immediately available.
The legendary actress was the mother of actors Sean Penn (62) and Chris Penn, who died in 2006 at the age of 40, as well as musician Michael Penn (64).
For 41 years, Ryan was married to actor and director Leo Penn, whom she met in New York in 1957 during the rehearsals for the play “The Iceman Cometh.” The two bonded shortly after the meeting and remained married until Leo’s death in 1998.
Ryan also appeared on Broadway in “Sing Till Tomorrow” from 1953 to 1954, and then again in 1958 in “Comes a Day.”
Over the course of her several decades of career, this multi-talented artist has appeared in over 60 films and TV shows.
Her best-known films include The Feast (2005), Parenting (1989), The Eight-Legged Freaks (2002), Magnolia (1999) and All the King’s Men (2006). in several of his sons’ projects, incl. “At Close Distance” (1986), “I’m Sam” (2001), “The Indian Runner” (1991) and “The Crossing Ranger” (1995).
The television was dominated by guest appearances in such series as “Twilight Zone”, “Bonanza”, “Little House on the Prairie”, “Blue New York Police”, “ER”, “CSI: Criminal Investigation”, “Private”. Practice, “Ally McBeal,” and “Grey’s Anatomy,” among others.
Sean has not yet spoken publicly on the matter, and his representatives have not immediately responded to Page Six’s request for comment.
