Ellen DeGeneres, Anne Heche’s ex-girlfriend, recently spoke about the terrible vehicle accident that put Heche in a coma. A photographer reportedly asked DeGeneres if she had the chance to talk with Heche since her nearly deadly tragedy, according to Entertainment Tonight. The host of a discussion programme retorted:

No, I haven’t. I would not know because we are not in contact.

DeGeneres, though, emailed Heche her best wishes and stated:

I do not wish for anyone to suffer harm.

DeGeneres said, “Sure was,” when the photographer noted that Heche’s accident was “hazardous” in nature.

On August 5, Anne Heche was transported to the hospital after colliding with a two-story Los Angeles home in her blue Mini Cooper. The actress suffered severe burns after her car caught fire.

Heche’s agent revealed to Entertainment Tonight on Monday, August 8, that the actress was in a coma and needed surgery to cure her burns:

“Anne is currently in a very severe situation. She needs mechanical respiration due to a major lung injury, and surgery is needed to treat burns. She is unconscious and hasn’t awakened since just after the accident.

In 1997, Ellen DeGeneres and Anne Heche began dating; however, their relationship ended in 2000. According to reports, they decided to end their relationship after a “amicable break up” since it “wasn’t working.”

At a Vanity Fair party in 1997, Ellen DeGeneres and Anne Heche first connected and hit it off. In a 1998 interview with the Tampa Bay Times, the former talked candidly about how they met and stated:

At the Vanity Fair party, I met her. And it was a chemistry-related issue that is difficult to explain. It simply took place. There was no doubt that I was drawn to her, but that wasn’t enough. There are many lovely folks around. She is very distinctive.

At the 1997 Volcano premiere, the pair made their red carpet debut. The actress later discussed the incident in the 2018 Irish Goodbye podcast and revealed that she had been forewarned that the Fox deal would be at risk due to the appearance:

“I had informed them that Ellen would be my date, and I had been warned that if I went with Ellen, I would lose my Fox contract. I responded, “No thanks,” as she grasped my hand and commanded me to do what she was told.

Heche also claimed that the couple lost their employment as a result of being escorted from the event:

“And we went to the premiere — these are the stories that I know people don’t know — we went to the premiere, we were touched on the shoulder, we were put into her limo in the third act, and we were told we couldn’t have our pictures taken at the press junket. And that week, she as well as I lost our jobs.
DeGeneres also stated to the Tampa Bay Times that she wished to leave Anne Heche’s life in order to save her professional future:

“I made an effort to leave her life. I said, “I don’t think that I’m good for you. I think that I’m harming your life and career.” I feel like I need to leave this place.

The pair maintained a solid connection for more than three years despite the challenges. Together, they worked on the sequel to If These Walls Could Talk, and in 1999, they moved into a multimillion-dollar house in Los Angeles.

At the August 2000 premiere of If These Walls Could Talk 2, DeGeneres told reporters that the couple was “quite happy in love three years later.” Sadly, they made the decision to stop working together that year.

In a statement to The Daily News, the couple revealed their separation and claimed that it was mutual:

Sadly, we have chosen to call it quits on our relationship. We part ways amicably and are grateful for our 3 and a half years of friendship. We sincerely hope that everyone will uphold our privacy during this trying period.
According to a second insider who spoke to the media, “the relationship just ran its course and it was not working.” They made it clear that no other entity was engaged in their split.

Anne Heche allegedly entered a stranger’s home after their breakup while under the influence of ecstasy. DeGeneres, meanwhile, admitted to being surprised by their breakup in an interview with The Los Angeles Times in 2001:

I haven’t spoken to her since she left, and I don’t have the answers. She went out the door.
Heche discussed her friendship with DeGeneres during her debut on Dancing with the Stars over twenty years later. She said that their relationship had an impact on Hollywood and helped advance the cause of equal rights:

“My story is a story that changed the globe and advanced the cause of equal rights. I dated Ellen DeGeneres for three and a half years, and the stigma associated with that relationship was so severe that I lost my lucrative movie contract and went ten years without appearing in a studio film.

In 2001, Anne Heche wed Coleman Laffoon after they split up. After the couple split up in 2009, the actress started dating James Tupper, who played her co-star in Men in Trees. In 2018, the couple decided to divorce.

Actress Portia de Rossi, whom Ellen DeGeneres began dating, became her spouse in 2008.
