The beginnings
Decker attended high school in Cold Spring, Minnesota, at Rocori High School.

Decker is in his training camp for three weeks before he goes to summer conditioning camp. Decker began the season with the same steady play that has been a hallmark of his career with the Gophers. Decker is sixth in the nation in receiving yards after three games. Against Syracuse, he had 183 yards, against Air Force, he had 113 yards, and against California, he had 119 yards and two touchdowns. Stewart Mandel, a columnist for Sports Illustrated, said Decker was the third best wide receiver in college football, behind Oklahoma State’s Dez Bryant and Georgia’s AJ Green. After the game against California, Decker had eight catches for 84 yards and two receiving touchdowns against Northwestern. In the next game, against Wisconsin, he had eight catches for 140 yards and a touchdown. After injuring his foot against Ohio State on October 27, 2009, it was announced that Decker would miss the remainder of the season. Decker had 758 receiving yards and five touchdowns by the end of his senior year.

The Broncos signed Decker to a four-year deal on July 27, 2010.
