Bunkall was born in Bristol, England in February 1982. He grew up in the village of Buckland Newton, in the north of the county of Dorset.

Bunkall attended Sherborne School, an independent boys’ boarding school in the market town of Sherborne in Dorset in South West England.[4] He then attended the University of Bristol, also in South West England, in the city of Bristol. In 2004 he obtained a postgraduate degree at City University in central London.
