Fr. Al Sharpton’s kale salad
Even the famous food for Sylvia’s soul cannot induce the Reverend Al Sharpton to break his raw diet of “kale salad with boiled eggs, tomatoes and cucumbers.”
The reverend was seen at an iconic eatery in Harlem last weekend and told us he had brought his own kale salad, “because I know there’s no kale there,” he said.
Sharpton told us that he started eating one meal a day “about four years ago.”
“I eat around noon every day and that’s it. I have a salad and in the evening I can eat a piece of whole wheat toast because my doctor said I need some type of protein, ”he said.
Sharpton attended Sylvia’s celebration with her daughter Dominique, who was recently eliminated from the reality show “Claim to Fame,” where attendees guess celebrity affiliation or offspring.
“[Watching her on TV] it was surreal… they had no idea who she was, ‘he said. “I never wanted my children to be just Al Sharpton’s daughter. I wanted her to be alone, and she does, ”he said.
Sharpton and Dominique were finishing a Harlem rally for their organization, the National Action Network, when the Reverend Jessie Jackson surprised them and suggested, “We’ll eliminate Dominique,” said Sharpton.
He then called the restaurant and asked if he could bring a kale salad. Sharpton quipped, “They broke the soul food label” by letting him in with the dish.
“But we went to Sylvia and they ordered all the spiritual food they wanted, and I ate the kale salad,” he said.
Training and eating kale helped Sharpton stay thin.
“In my height – maybe 15 years ago – I weighed 305 pounds. Today I weigh 132 pounds. I just made my decision and just did it. Cold turkey, he said.
