Gayle King’s ex-husband William Bumpus can’t get enough of her “fabulous” Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover.
“Well, I can check one more item off my wish list that will probably never happen! “My teenage fantasy of hooking up with a Sports Illustrated model finally came true,” the lawyer wrote in a statement to Page Six Sunday.
“WOW! Good for you Gayle… You look fantastic! Good for Sports Illustrated for choosing YOU!”
Bumpus, who was married to King from 1982 to 1993, added that his ex was always “beautiful inside and out (sic).”
“As time goes on, I appreciate you more and more as a pioneer, and as I see our phenomenal children and grandchildren!” he continued. “I’m proud of you and I still wish you nothing but happiness. Enjoy!”
William and the “CBS Mornings” host, 69, have two children: daughter Kirby Bumpus, 38, and son William Bumpus Jr. (37 years old).
The former couple allegedly experienced infidelity in their marriage, with King claiming that in 1990 he found her ex-husband “naked” in bed with another woman.
She recalled an incident during a 2016 Vanity Fair Q&A when she was asked, “Which living person do you most despise?”
“Contempt is a strong word. I’m not a big fan of the woman I caught naked with my now ex-husband on June 24, 1990 at 9:16 p.m., but I don’t remember the details,” the TV presenter said then.
A few days later, William opened up about his alleged infidelity to Page Six, telling us: “I was tormented by this life-changing decision. Although I have dealt with this matter privately… I publicly apologize for a serious offense that has radically changed the lives of all of us.”
However, their relationship seems to be friendly now, since King joked that she was going to send her ex a copy of her SI swimsuit cover.
“I wonder what my ex-husband thinks about this,” she says he told “Entertainment Tonight” Thursday. “I’ll send him a copy!”
Last week, King made her stunning magazine debut in a special 60th wedding anniversary issue alongside Kate Upton and Hunter McGrady.
Although the media mogul was told she would only appear on the inside of the magazine, she was shocked to find out she was featured on the cover.
“This will be on the newsstand? Oh my God!’” she said while hosting the issue on “CBS Mornings.”
King spoke candidly about her insecurities, recalling her grandmother who told her, “Mother Nature wasn’t as good to you as she was to other little girls. Maybe you should start wearing makeup like your friend [Oprah]”
“But when I look at it, I look damn good,” she added.
The TV presenter is also joined in the issue by Tyra Banks, Martha Stewart, Paulina Porizkova, Nina Agdal, Brooklyn Decker and other icons.
