Heidi Klum’s Halloween worm costume cost “more than anyone would have thought”

The price of this worm can make you squirm.
When Heidi Klum disguised herself as a worm for a 2022 Halloween party, there were questions ranging from how long it took to finish it to how on earth she went to the bathroom – but now the supermodel has revealed the secrets of her slimy (and dear) appearance to Hollywood reporter.
Klum, 49, joined her favorite Halloween guy, Mike Marino, owner of Prosthetic Renaissance, in an interview, and the costume specialist revealed that creating the look “costs a lot more than anyone would have thought.”
Sharing this since her annual event was canceled in 2020 and 2021, Klum said she wanted to wear “something different and unexpected” on his spooky return.
However, the idea of dressing like a worm on a fishing line held by her husband, 33-year-old Tom Kaulitz, was initially not well received by Marino, who “did not think it was possible”.
“This costume idea was so big and it had to happen in [real time and in] real life, no cuts for two, ”said the special effects specialist. “I wasn’t sure if I would do it.”
After convincing Klum that they could, as her Project Runway partner Tim Gunn said, “make it work,” Marino and his team set out to create a human-sized worm in four months by taking scans of the model’s face and body and creating a prototype foam worm.
“When the suit was built, we buttoned Heidi and tucked the zipper back, then I glued the devices to the face and painted it,” said the costume veteran.
It took a good 12 hours for her to turn into an invertebrate, according to Klum, who shared, “We started at 11am and probably got to the carpet around 11pm.”
While she arrived fashionably late for the party held at Sake No Hana at the Moxy Hotel on the Lower East Side, the Halloween Queen definitely caught the eye in her wormy suit, which she called “so claustrophobic.”
“Adding a prosthesis to the body is one thing – but getting stuck in a worm’s body and not being able to use hands or feet was not very comfortable,” admitted the America’s Got Talent judge. “But Halloween is not about convenience.”
“For me, Halloween is about transforming and being creative,” she continued, adding that she was pleased “that people appreciate the creativity and effort to create this, as well as all the other costumes I have done in the past.”
After this true Halloween transformation, we can’t wait to see what Klum will wear next year – and as she revealed last week, the planning process has already started.
