House of the Dragon: Why We Are Team Raenir

Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen would love Daenerys Targaryen.

We kept thinking about it while setting up House of the DragonSecond episode on August 28. The young Targaryen he played Millie Alcock in Game of Thrones spin-off, displayed some character traits similar to her dragon-riding descendant. Much like Daenerys (Emilia Clarke on Got it), Rhaenyra is regularly underestimated for one reason: she’s a girl.

However, instead of succumbing to the kingdom’s contempt for her gender, she decides to rise above it and prove that she was named King Viserys’ heir for a reason. For example, as her father Viserys (Paddy Considine) forced to marry (a real baby!) to keep her bloodline, Rhaenyra doesn’t have the tantrums her uncle Prince Daemon’s beloved past (Matt Smith). Instead, she blesses her father to remarry, proving that she can put the kingdom before herself. The main sign of a true ruler.

However, Rhaenyra shows that she still has her sights set on the Iron Throne. Example: after Princess Rhaenys Targaryen’s cousin (Eva Best), who was scorned when Viserys was named king, tells Rhaenyra that a woman will never rule Westeros because “that’s the way things are”, Rhaenyra replies, “When I’m queen, I’ll make a new order.”
