Gina Carano: Who Is She?

Gina Joy Carano, an American actress and former mixed martial artist, was born on April 16, 1982. From 2006 to 2009, she competed in EliteXC and Strikeforce, compiling a 7-1 record. She has been dubbed the “face of women’s MMA” due to her popularity, however Carano disagrees with the moniker. In their 2009 Strikeforce match, she and Cris Cyborg became the first female MMA stars. After suffering her first professional MMA loss to Cyborg, Carano gave up competing.

Carano made the transition from the ring to the screen in 2011, when she played the lead in the action movie Haywire. He then made appearances in Fast & Furious 6 (2013) and Deadpool (2016). In the first two seasons of the Disney+ space Western series The Mandalorian from 2019 to 2020, Carano also played Cara Dune. Following some divisive comments she made on social media, Lucasfilm announced in 2021 that Carano would not be included in any upcoming Star Wars content.

Gina Carano’s Early Years

Carano, the son of casino executive and former professional football player Glenn Carano and Dana Joy Cason, was born in Dallas County, Texas, and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada.

He is one of three siblings, the middle child. When her parents separated when Gina was seven, her mother raised her. Despite having only a “small part of Italian ancestry”, he said his family holds “an Italian festival” every year.

The girls’ basketball team he coached at Trinity Christian High School in Las Vegas won a state championship before Carano graduated. She also participated in softball and volleyball. He majored in psychology while studying for three years at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas after spending one year at the University of Nevada, Reno.

Gina Carano’s Career in Mixed Martial Arts

Muay Thai is where Carano began his professional career. She got involved because of her ex-boyfriend, Kevin Ross, a professional Muay Thai fighter. After amassing a 12-1-1 Muay Thai record, Carano was approached by Jamie Levine with the opportunity to compete in the first female MMA match in Nevada with World Extreme Fighting against Leiticia Pestova (a fight Carano won in of 38 seconds). She received a fight against Rosi Sexton at the World Pro Fighting event in Las Vegas. Late in the second round, Carano submitted Sexton to win the match.

Kobold initially set out to take out Carano and continued to work on the takedown the entire time. In the second round, Kobold managed to get a takedown, but the match ended before he could use it effectively. When the fight broke, Carano took his chances by striking Kobold at every turn, creating a large gash on the inside of his opponent’s eyebrow in the opening round. Carano attempted to end the fight at the end of the third round with a head kick that landed flush on Kobold’s chin, but Kobold was able to stand up and the fight was declared. Carano won by a unanimous vote (30–27, 30–27, and 29–28).

Fighting for the Strikeforce Women’s Lightweight Championship

After months of deadlock over their free agent status, Carano and other fighters in the defunct promotion became contractually associated with Strikeforce after the latter acquired ProElite’s assets.

At Strikeforce: Lawler vs. Shields, announced that Carano will face Cris Cyborg on August 15 at Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg. For the tournament, Strikeforce established their inaugural Women’s Championship.

The title will be called the Strikeforce Women’s Lightweight Championship, despite the fact that the 145-pound weight class is often referred to as featherweight. This was announced by Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker.

The Strikeforce Women’s Middleweight Championship is now the name of the competition. Carano suffered her first loss in professional MMA when Cyborg defeated her by TKO at 4:59 of the first round.

As of August 2009, Carano has not competed, and has no tournaments scheduled.

Carano still has four fights left on his original contract with Strikeforce, which keeps him under contract with the UFC.

During an appearance on The Arsenio Hall Show in April 2014, Carano revealed that he was considering a return to mixed martial arts.

Contract talks between the UFC and Carano reportedly broke down in September 2014. Ronda Rousey said in her interview on the Joe Rogan Experience 690 podcast that a fight between her and Gina Carano was set for December 2014 but did not happen.

Gina Carano’s Career in Film and Television

In the 2005 film Ring Girls, Carano played the lead role.

In the 2007 Oxygen reality series Fight Girls, Carano and Lisa King coached wannabe fighters. He performed “Crush” on the NBC program American Gladiators. Monica Carlson (Jet), Jennifer Widerstrom (Phoenix), Michael O’Hearn (Titan), Tanoai Reed (Toa), and Don “Hollywood” Yates all appear in the show’s exercise video (Wolf). Release date for DVD is December 16, 2008.

She appeared in Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 as Natasha, a purchasable hero unit. In various cut scenes, he plays a Soviet sniper/commando. Blood and Bone, directed by Michael Jai White, features him (2009).

Carano was cast in the lead role of Steven Soderbergh’s spy thriller Haywire (2011) in September 2009.

The dialogue delivery can seem a little stiff, and he acknowledged that Soderbergh made some adjustments to his voice in post-production,” said Christy Lemire of the Associated Press. “has a tremendous presence, an intriguing mix of muscular power and striking femininity,” she added. According to Newsweek, Carano’s background in martial arts lends her “unparalleled physicality” to the character. She explained her knockout victory over the co-star that of Michael Fassbender as follows:

We are very harsh with each other. He threw me against the wall. He hit my head so hard that I passed out for a moment and turned white. We got down on our knees at one point, causing him to fall to his knees.

Carano joined the cast of John Stockwell’s 2014 action thriller In the Blood in February 2012. The film begins when a husband goes missing while on vacation in the Caribbean with his wife, played by Carano.

The broken wife hunts down the men she believes are responsible for her kidnapping and murder with brutality and ruthlessness. As Gina’s character tries to “[rein] of her violent history, Stockwell predicted that “this part will showcase not only Gina’s fighting skills but her acting skills as well.”

Gina’s appearance has changed, augmentation or no augmentation. No wonder many people think Gina has implants.

Kevin previously held the featherweight belt in Bellator kickboxing. He won the WBC Muay Thai international super-lightweight title and the WBC Muay Thai American welterweight title during his impressive Muay Thai career.

Although they seem to be getting along well, the couple has no plans to tie the knot just yet. Gina and Kevin haven’t reconciled yet, and they still haven’t said goodbye.
