Joe Absolom is unexpectedly in the spotlight after admitting he cried as he left his career-defining soap opera.
English actor Absolom is best known for his roles as Matthew Rose in BBC drama series EastEnders and as Al Large in ITV comedy series Doc Martin. He has previously appeared on a number of ITV and BBC programmes.
Before his acting career took off, he had his big break in a Sun Pat peanut butter TV commercial. Joe plays baseball while listening to a Michael Angelis rap song, then eats peanut butter on bread in the commercial.
How long has Joe Absolom been married to wife Liz Brown?
Absolom and his longtime partner Liz Brown have been married for three years. 2019 saw the couple’s wedding. However, he has held back from revealing any further information about her. The most likely explanation is that his wife prefers her privacy and doesn’t value fame or recognition.
The 42-year-old actor – who played the hapless Matthew Rose on the BBC One series from 1997-2000 – said in an interview with Radio Times that he used to do TV magazine covers when he was at EastEnders. He went on to say he would have his picture taken, board the Thameslink and depart without further thought.
Now when I’m at Tesco and I see all the soap characters on the covers of the magazines I’m like, ‘Damn it, if my face was out there every week it wouldn’t be healthy.’
A classic storyline involved a local DJ named Matthew who was wrongly convicted of the murder of Saskia Duncan, imprisoned, and then released. In October 1999 he announced his resignation from public office.
Absolom noted that while he enjoyed his time on the soap opera, it got to a point where it would have been difficult to expand on the current storyline, leading to his erroneous murder conviction.
Joe Absolom Children and Family
Joe Absolom has three children with his wife. The most popular among them is Lyla Absolom.
People confuse her with Lyla who is currently pursuing her acting career. She is mentioned in the 2004 Doc Martin on IMDB. Joe played a key role in it, and she first appeared in it in 2013. But it’s just a case of naming conflicts; nothing more.
The actor’s other two children have chosen to stay away from the limelight and cameras, probably because they don’t like their faces being seen by the public. As a result, Absolom was able to maintain his ideal personal life.
He appeared as Matthew Rose in EastEnders in 1997 and furthered his acting career. In 2000, the British Soap Awards honored him with the Best Actor Award for his work there. Before he could exact revenge for being wrongly convicted of murder by Steve Owen (Martin Kemp), his character was imprisoned.
The Lewisham-born actor amassed a sizeable following over the course of almost three years, but left the series in February 2000. Since leaving Albert Square, the 43-year-old has spent a significant portion of his career working on various series on TV -Projects like Death in Paradise, Ashes to Ashes and The Bay.

Absolom was born in Lewisham, London. A graduate of Forest Hill School, he began his career in the entertainment industry with cameos in commercials for Sun-Pat Peanut Butter before making his debut in the 1991 film Antonia and Jane.
Career
In 1997, Absolom began portraying the role of Matthew Rose on the British television series EastEnders. During his first year on the show, he was involved in only a few acts. The murder of Saskia Duncan, which began in February 1999 and became the center of his attention, was the plot point that brought him notoriety. The real killer, Steve Owen, made his character look like the killer so he could get away with it (played by Martin Kemp). After getting his revenge on Steve Owen, his character’s final appearance on the series was in February 2000, and he was awarded Best Actor at the British Soap Awards that same year.
Since leaving EastEnders, Absolom has played supporting roles on ITV television programs such as Vincent and starred in the 2002 British horror film Long Time Dead. Perhaps the lead role that brought him the most fame was the lead he got in Doc Martin; Al Large, son of Bert Large. Since the beginning of the series, he has garnered critical acclaim for his performance in this installment.
Between 1992 and 2009, Absolom appeared in various guest starring roles on The Bill. In Casualty he played the role of Benny, a malicious loan shark. He played the role of a crook in the online crime thriller Girl Number Nine, in which he also starred opposite Tracy Ann Oberman and Gareth David Lloyd. More recently, he appeared as Ivan in the horror film I Spit on Your Grave 2 (2013), which was released in 2013. He emerged victorious on the celebrity edition of the game show Total Wipeout which aired on 18 September 2010 and donated £10,000 to charity as the prize. In the 2019 drama “A Confession” he played the real-life murderer Christopher Halliwell. In 2021 he had a starring role in ITV drama The Bay.
radio
Absolom is also a radio actor and was featured on the BBC Radio 4 Play of the Day titled Bringing Eddie Home by John Peacock. This play is based on the true story of an East End couple named Edna and Jack Wallace who fought to have their son’s body returned to Britain from Aden and the ensuing battle over the rights of British military personnel. Absolom played a role in this play. The play portrayed Absolom Eddie Wallace and also starred former EastEnders cast members Bill Treacher, Edna Doré, Todd Carty and Tilly Vosburgh in additional roles.
