Summary of the plot
A boy named David Martinez lives in Night City and is enrolled in the Arasaka academy there. David, unlike his classmates, is not rich and lives with his mother, who only works as a primary medic.
David is a model student who earns only A’s, but he is socially isolated from the other students in his class. With the help of his close friend Ripperdoc, he takes a shortcut when it comes to his cyber implants. His mother wanted him to prioritize his studies and increase his rank in the Arasaka firm as soon as possible.
On a certain day, David and his mother are unfortunate enough to be caught in the crossfire of a drive-by shooting, which leaves his mother in a critical condition. He was sent to a mediocre doctor because it was the only option available to them, but he couldn’t make it through treatment.
David discovers a Sandevistan implant from Arasaka, which is a military-grade cybernetic device, while searching his belongings. Recently, he witnessed a soldier go into cyberpsychosis while using it, and was eventually able to take him down with an elite Max Tac squad.
Even though he had no previous experience working with this type of technology, he decided to ask Ripperdoc to implant him with Sandevistan. After he got the technology, he went to the school where his bully was enrolled and gave him a severe beating.
While on the train, he encounters Lucy, another individual with implants. He notices her technology and successfully persuades her to work with him. Before collapsing from the strain, David uses his higher powers to assist him in obtaining some implant chips for the purpose of making a quick buck.
He was taken to Ripperdoc, who prescribed him several immunoblockers and told him to limit his use of Sandevistan to no more than two or three times per day. He then goes home with Lucy, where the two of them talk about the goals they set for themselves. He reveals to her that one of his goals is to travel to the moon, which is a popular location for vacationers.
David is accused of taking the technology intended for him by one of the edgerunners who ambushed him with a group of other people with cybernetic implants. David explained to them that it belonged to his mother, who had died not long ago. The current leader of the edgerunner pack, Maine, claims that her mother bought Sandevistan for her.
David suggests that he and his friends become part of their squad and pay off the debt so he can pursue his dream of becoming an edgerunner. They agree that he can join them and they will send him on a mission to protect the navigation data of Mr. limousine. Tanaka. Tanaka is a high-ranking Arasaka executive.
Lucy, Dorio, Kiwi, Pilar, and Rebecca are some of the crew members, led by Maine. They try to carry out the work in a covert manner; however, things get out of hand, and they are forced to improvise. After a long pursuit, David finally successfully delivered the limo to its intended destination.
After that, he gets to know the other team members and begins to understand the ins and outs of being an edgerunner. In addition to this, he develops a romantic relationship with Lucy. One day, when they are partying, Pilar is murdered by a random individual whose illness causes them to act irrationally, and then David and the others kill the murderer.
David and the rest of the crew devise a plan to capture Tanaka himself, but as they work to extract information from Tanaka’s head, Maine suffers a cyberpsychotic break and renders the Kiwi inoperable. Because Lucy is a netrunner—that is, someone who breaks into a computer network to retrieve information—she is forced to act.
Despite the fact that he was shocked by his discovery, Maine completely lost it outside and killed Dorio in addition to a large number of police officers and Max Tac agents. David and Lucy make it out alive, but the ordeal leaves them both traumatized.
After a period of time, David gained some muscle and had a large amount of additional technology implanted. He completes the jobs with the help of Kiwi, Rebecca, and Falco, who is his main wheelman. Lucy is David’s roommate, but despite his repeated invitations, she never cooperates with him or his colleagues.
David learns that Lucy was raised as an Arasaka operator and is willing to search the old net for legacy information before she evades corporate capture and goes into hiding. David is hired for a job by a fixer named Faraday, who first gives them the Tanaka job.
Faraday had worked as a fixer for the Militech business in the past, but Arasaka decided to hire him for a specific job. Lucy eliminates the netrunners who attempt to steal the date stolen from Tanaka by Arasaka, but Arasaka is successful in recovering the date stolen from Tanaka.
Arasaka is working on creating a cyberskeleton, and she believes that David is the best person to test it because of his experience working with high-grade implants. Lucy has feelings for David, so she is determined that Arasaka won’t be able to get their hands on her.
As Faraday and Kiwi work together against Lucy, she is tricked into falling into their trap. They put him in a position where he has no choice but to implant the cyberskeleton in himself by luring David and his team in the direction of a convoy carrying the cyberskeleton.
David learns that Faraday and Kiwi have betrayed them and are currently holding Lucy. As a result, he makes a plan to retrieve Lucy with the help of Rebecca and Falco.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners ending explained in detail:
What is Arasaka really looking for?
Because Arasaka makes money selling military-grade implants, they demand that their latest technology be tested in the field. Militech, one of their main competitors, found out about the cyberskeleton and convinced Faraday to hire Maine’s team to get more information about it and try to gain an advantage over Arasaka.
Lucy discovers David’s file on Tanaka’s head and learns that they want David to test it since he was able to manage Sandevistan without experiencing any significant ill effects. Lucy also discovered that they wanted David to field test it.
Per Faraday’s plan, they intended to let David take out the Militech strike team with the cyberskeleton and then collect it himself, but David proved too strong for them to do so.
What’s going on in Kiwi?
Despite the fact that he betrayed the others, Kiwi tells Faraday that he kept his half of the bargain because David planted the cyberskeleton. He demanded money for his services and said he had to leave town immediately to escape the chaos.
Faraday asks to see him in person one last time, but in the end he shoots him because he needs to kill anyone who knows Arasaka technology. On the other side of this
s, he was still betrayed. He managed to hang around long enough to explain to Falco where Faraday and Lucy were going before he was completely taken away.
Who is this Adam Smasher really?
Adam Smasher is a legendary edgerunner who has been associated with Night City for a very long time. He is said to be more tech than human, and despite this, he handled the situation naturally while avoiding any symptoms of cyberpsychosis.
Adam Smasher was the individual who was supposed to inherit the Arasaka cyberskeleton, but when David implanted himself and lost control, Arasaka used Adam Smasher to remove the cyberskeleton from David. Adam Smasher is the person who should inherit the Arasaka cyberskeleton.
