Dance with the Stars is a dance-focused reality show on Disney+ that invites a number of famous people to compete and show off their dancing skills. It is interesting to note that each participant works with an experienced dancer who serves as a partner in the performance and teaches them what they need to know. Each couple has the same goal: to outperform the other duos and emerge as the champions of the competition by convincing the audience and the jury. The show’s 31st season, like all others before it, featured appearances from notable guests, and this year was no exception.
Samuel “Sam” Champion, whose contestant Cheryl Burke was one of the most skilled contestants, became one of the most talked about celebrities to appear that particular season. The meteorologist is a familiar face on ABC’s ‘Good Morning America’ and his presence on the show came as a pleasant surprise to many viewers. His appearance on the show has become a regular feature. Although most people are familiar with Sam’s professional accomplishments, they are interested in learning more about his personal life. Don’t worry because we’re here to tell you everything we know about it!
Sam Champion’s family
Sam Champion was born on August 13, 1961 and spent his childhood years in the city of Paducah, Kentucky. The journalist’s father, Lieutenant Colonel James H. Champion, who died on October 25, 2010, was stationed in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam between 1968 and 1969, where he performed honorable military service. The journalist’s father was killed in an accident on October 25, 2010. During an emotional discussion surrounding “Oprah: Where are you now?”, Sam admitted to the journalist that his father’s reaction to his formal coming out to him wasn’t what the journalist expected.
Still, the two were able to put their issues behind them before the veteran died, and the father expressed pride in the man his son has grown into. Sam adores his mother, Sylvia Champion, as well as his older sister, Teresa L. Champion. His father, Sam Champion, died many years ago.

In October 2021, after three years of relationship, the happy couple got engaged.
Sam’s sexual orientation was revealed to the world when news of his engagement broke. He has since revealed that his sexuality has never been a secret, especially off-camera; Despite this, he chose not to share it with his audience, feeling that there was no need to do so.
Sam and Rubem exchanged their vows in a private and intimate ceremony that took place on the afternoon of December 21, 2012 and was presided over by Judge George J. Silver of the New York State Supreme Court. The event was hosted by the journalist at his residence in New York City, New York, and was attended by a number of celebrity guests, including other Good Morning America presenters including Lara Spencer and Josh Elliot. Although Sam and Rubem don’t have children of their own yet, they have plans for the future.
Living in different locations, Sam and Rubem frequently travel between New York City and Miami, which no doubt takes up a significant portion of their free time. In addition, the former resident of the apartment is very happy with himself because it has a beautiful rooftop garden and is located in the Big Apple.
The couple enjoys spending their time in Miami visiting the city’s many stunning beaches and spending quality time together. Both Sam and Rubem are outspoken activists for a variety of social causes including equal marriage rights, human rights and more. We hope that both of them can find joy in their lives and achieve their goals in the years to come.

Samuel James Champion is an American weather presenter who was born on August 13, 1961. He is best known for his 25-year career on ABC’s flagship network WABC-TV and Good Morning America. Champion has been in the broadcast industry ever since. His previous work at The Weather Channel includes stints as a co-host on the programs AMHQ: America’s Morning Headquarters and 23.5 Degrees With Sam Champion.
After working for ABC until his last day on December 4, 2013, he was offered the position of Editor-in-Chief at The Weather Channel, which he took up on January 1, 2014. Additionally, Champion was a guest on The Today Show, which airs on ABC. After leaving NBC and the Weather Channel in 2016, he returned to ABC on a backup basis, and in June 2019 he began working at WABC-TV as the weekday morning and noon weather announcer.
Early Life and Education
On August 13, 1961, Champion was born to his parents, Sylvia and James H. Champion, in the city of Paducah, Kentucky. Teresa is his only sibling and the only sibling he has. His father served as a lieutenant colonel in the United States Marine Corps and was stationed in Vietnam before his death on October 25, 2010. In 1979 he received his diploma from Fairfax High School in Fairfax, Virginia. He received a Bachelor of Arts in broadcast news from Eastern Kentucky University and completed his internship at WKYT-TV in Lexington, Kentucky.
Career
Both WPSD-TV of Paducah, Kentucky and WJKS (later WCWJ) of Jacksonville, Florida were employed by Champion during his career. In 1988, he began his career as a weather forecaster on Eyewitness News on WABC-TV in New York City. When he started working for Good Morning America in 2004, his annual salary was $1.5 million. On April 7, 2008, he made his debut as the host of Sea Rescue, an educational and informational program that is part of Litton’s Weekend Adventure. The program focuses on the rescue, rehabilitation and, in many cases, the release of animals back into their natural environment.
Good Morning America announced in August 2006 that Champion would join the show beginning September 5, 2006, along with ABC News. On December 2, 2013, Champion announced he was leaving his position at ABC to join The Weather Channel as both an on-air personality and editor-in-chief. He made his final appearance on Good Morning America on December 4, 2013. Ginger Zee was immediately brought in as his replacement.
Live with Kelly and Ryan, a daily talk show produced by WABC-TV, and Larry King Live, which airs on CNN, had featured him occasionally. When he begins his 30-second weather forecasts, he often says, “Let’s get to the boards.” “It’s like that across the country,” he says when local ABC weather reports pause. Here’s what you should expect for this morning.”
After resigning his position as Good Morning America host, it was immediately announced that Champion would be joining The Weather Channel as the host of his own morning show, which was named America’s Morning Headquarters, which debuted on March 17, 2014 and was released in September 2015 announced that Champion would be leaving AMHQ to serve as a contributor to other networks’ primetime programming. The decision not to renew her contract was made by both Champion and The Weather Channel in December 2016. As a direct result, Champion resigned from the organization on December 27, 2016.
While his replacement, Ginger Zee, was on maternity leave from her position as chief meteorologist, he returned to ABC as a backup weather forecaster for Good Morning America. As of June 3, 2019, it was announced that Champion would be contributing to ABC News in addition to his return to the morning and midday news programs on WABC-TV, which he previously hosted.
On September 8, 2022, it was announced that Champion would be a contestant on season 31 of Dancing with the Stars. He works with Cheryl Burke as his partner.
