Jameela Jamil has revealed how her previous experience with an eating disorder left a lasting impact on her body.

The 38-year-old “Good Place” alum recalled her fight with anorexia in Wednesday’s episode of “Good Place”. Kelly Ripa’s “Let’s Talk Off Camera” Podcast.admitting that it “screwed up my kidneys, liver, digestive system and heart.”

She also recently discovered that she had “destroyed” her bone density.

“I’ve taken so many laxatives that I’m amazed I even have a hole, to be completely honest. He’s a real soldier. He’s a survivor. I took whatever pill, drink, or diet Oprah recommended. I did it. I took it. You know, any super-low-calorie supermodel diet,” she said.

Although she claimed she would rather blame external pressures for her self-esteem issues, “ultimately it’s my fault,” she continued.

“I’m very sorry to my body for seriously jeopardizing my future for beauty standards and trying to fit in with other people,” the actress said.

“That’s why I get so publicly upset about eating disorders and dieting, because there’s so much talk about the dangers of being a bigger body, and there’s almost no talk about the dangers of not eating enough, but only eating too much,” she continued.

Jamil, who also once criticized Kim Kardashian for her role in setting “impossible” beauty standards, added: “I think it’s really dangerous because we really have no idea how people’s fertility is damaged, how their long-term health is unimportant – ed. We just don’t talk about it and it’s an uncomfortable truth that the diet industry is kind of crushing it.”

“I want to be someone who reminds people: Don’t eat now to have a waistline, eat to have longevity later,” she said.

She continued, “There’s so much talk about the dangers of being a bigger body, and almost no talk about the dangers of not eating enough.”

Now that she’s been “eating right” for almost five years, Jamil said she’s happy with the progress she’s made.

“My hair has grown back, I have regained my energy, my sex drive is back and everything in my life is better,” she said with a laugh.

However, her recent health achievements have not made up for the damage her eating disorder has done.
