Although she claimed she would rather blame external pressures for her self-esteem issues, “ultimately it’s my fault,” she continued.
“I’m very sorry to my body for seriously jeopardizing my future for beauty standards and trying to fit in with other people,” the actress said.
“That’s why I get so publicly upset about eating disorders and dieting, because there’s so much talk about the dangers of being a bigger body, and there’s almost no talk about the dangers of not eating enough, but only eating too much,” she continued.
Jamil, who also once criticized Kim Kardashian for her role in setting “impossible” beauty standards, added: “I think it’s really dangerous because we really have no idea how people’s fertility is damaged, how their long-term health is unimportant – ed. We just don’t talk about it and it’s an uncomfortable truth that the diet industry is kind of crushing it.”
“I want to be someone who reminds people: Don’t eat now to have a waistline, eat to have longevity later,” she said.
Now that she’s been “eating right” for almost five years, Jamil said she’s happy with the progress she’s made.
“My hair has grown back, I have regained my energy, my sex drive is back and everything in my life is better,” she said with a laugh.
However, her recent health achievements have not made up for the damage her eating disorder has done.
“I’m just pissed because now I feel pain and everything is more complicated,” she added.
As a result of her experiences, the actress doubled down on her previous vow to inform others who may be on the same path.
“I guess I just don’t think about myself that much now. “I have a greater ability to think about others and I use all the energy I have to warn everyone else,” she said.
