James Hetfield of Metallica has filed for divorce

Metallica’s James Hetfield and wife Francesco Hetfield resigned after the rocker had quietly filed for divorce.

Sources close to the ex-couple have TMZ said that James had filed in Colorado earlier this year and the end of their marriage simply passed under the radar of public opinion.

The couple got married in 1997 after five years of dating. Since then, they have welcomed three children, daughters Cali (24) and Marcella (20) and son Castor (22).

Hetfield, 59, previously credited his future ex-wife, 52, for helping manage his anger and alcohol issues, Joe Rogan said in 2017 (by MetalHeadZone), “Fear was a great motivator for me. Losing my family was the thing that scared me so much, it was the bottom I hit that my family would go away because of my behaviors I brought home from the road. I was kicked out of the house by my wife, I was living alone somewhere, I didn’t want to. “
