Jason Momoa reveals a new tattoo on his head after shaving his hair
Jason Momoa has some fresh ink.
The “Aquaman” actor made his debut Wednesday with a new tattoo on the side of his head, days after he shaved off his signature long hair for a good cause.
Momoa, 43, approached artist Keone Nunes, who specializes in traditional Hawaiian tattoos, with an intricate geometric design – that starts at the hairline and extends down the neck.
The actor was born in Honolulu and his father is a native Hawaiian.
“I have something special for you,” Momoa told his friends in the recording on social media, adding in his caption that the work “took 20 years to do.”
And he wasn’t exaggerating: “I’ve known Jason’s father Joe since high school and started talking to Jason over 20 years ago about working on him.” Nunes described the photo with Momoa after the session. “With family and friends who supported him, yesterday was the first step on his journey.”
The new tattoo resembles a large pattern on Momoa’s left forearm, which the star previously explained was inspired by the coat of arms of the Hawaiian family.
“It’s our aumakua, our family crest, the shark guardian, is supposed to bring darkness out of your heart and bring light – but we’re still working on it,” Momoa said in a 2013 interview.
Apple TV + Momoa’s new show, Chief of War, follows “Hawaii’s unification and colonization history from an indigenous point of view.” for a change. In addition to starring in the series, Momoa serves as a writer and executive producer.
