Jay Leno caught driving into the same garage as the car fire
Jay Leno wastes no time getting back on that proverbial horse.
Just a day after being discharged from the hospital – where he was being treated for severe burns sustained in a car fire – the comedian was spotted returning to the scene of a bizarre accident.
In images obtained exclusively by Page Six, Leno, 72, drives a Mercedes-Benz E55 into his famous Los Angeles garage on Tuesday, where he stores dozens of valuable vintage vehicles.
The scars from third-degree burns on his face and hands were clearly visible as he got behind the wheel.
“[I’m] hangs there. It’s fine,” Leno told the photographer before confirming he still plans to do his thing pre-scheduled show at The Comedy & Magic Club on Sunday.
As previously reported, the former “Tonight Show” host was working in his garage on his white 1907 steam car when a fuel leak and simultaneous spark in the 115-year-old car caused an explosion.
He was immediately transported to the Grossman Burn Center and stayed there for 10 days to receive burns to his face, chest and hands.
Among the various forms of treatment he received were two transplant procedures to remove unhealthy tissue and speed healing, and multiple sessions in a hyperbaric chamber to reduce swelling, increase blood flow, and kill bacteria.
The host of “Jay Leno’s Garage” will “receive further care at the Grossman burn clinic,” doctors said in a Monday press release.
Dr. Peter Grossman personally added that he was “satisfied” with Leno’s progress and was “optimistic” that the comic would make a full recovery.
“Because I’m getting to know Jay, I don’t think it’s going to be months,” said Grossman. “I think he’s the kind of guy who moves forward.”
Leno himself made the same prediction in a statement for Page Six, just one day after the horrific ordeal.
“I suffered severe burns from a gasoline fire,” he explained on November 14. “I’m fine. I just need a week or two to get back on my feet.
