Jennette McCurdy is “brave” to write books

Nickelodeon icon Kel Mitchell says Jennette McCurdy is “brave”, writing about her time online in her book, “Glad My Mom Died.”
“Everyone has a different story, and the way they want to tell their story and express themselves – and bring it out – is definitely important,” says Mitchell, 43, an exclusive Page Six, promoting Season 3 of his MTV show Deliciousness.
“I remember what she went through when her mother died at that time,” says the comedian, recalling his term in 2013 on McCurdy’s sitcom “Sam & Cat.”
“So [I love] listening to her tell her story and being brave in it. “
The memory of “iCarly” examines the complicated relationship she shared with her late mother, Debra McCurdy, who controlled her every move and exposed her to alleged abuses. Debra died of cancer when Jennette was 21 years old.
Jennette also claims in her book that she was once offered $ 300,000 in “covert money” to make sure she would not publicly discuss her time at Nickelodeon or her experiences with the man she worked with, only known as “The Creator.” (She declined the network’s offer, she says.)
It’s worth noting that Dan Schneider has created both “iCarly” and “Sam & Cat”. He parted ways with Nickelodeon in 2018 after an investigation found he might be verbally offensive; previous allegations of sexual misconduct remained unfounded.
Schneider also directed “All That” and “Kenan & Kel,” the Nickelodeon series that put Mitchell and partner Kenan Thompson on the map in the 1990s, when both men were teenagers.
Mitchell continued his collaboration with the network for decades, working in front of and behind the camera as both an actor and a producer.
He tells Page Six that working with 30-year-old Jennette remains one of his best Nickelodeon memories.
“Jennette is amazing. I worked with her on Sam & Cat which was great. I and my wife [Asia Lee] I also had to spend time with Jennette, ”she recalls.
“She played my assistant on Sam & Cat and we just had a great time. She was cracking. She is a very, very talented actress and comedian.
After seeking therapy in late 2010, McCurdy decided to leave show business for good – a decision Mitchell supports despite the power of the star he witnessed on set.
“I think it’s amazing. Never just stick in the box. Do a lot of things. Follow a lot of different things, says the youth pastor and author as he prepares to publish his second book, The Day of a Joke.
“I love seeing it: actors become authors, they become pastors,” she adds, “all these different things.”
Of all the work Mitchell has undertaken, co-hosting Deliciousness with Tiffani Thiessen, Angela Kinsey and Tim Chantarangsu may be his favorite so far.
“I love this trip. I like to find joy in every moment and it is very fun. You can sit on the couch and just crack about all the lack of food, “says the actor of” Good Burger. ”
“I love watching this show and I’m about food. Thanks to the “Good Burger” I get free burgers and all sorts of other things. So it just works! “
Season 3 of Deliciousness is available for streaming on MTV.com and Paramount +.
