Jimmy Kimmel’s son Billy is recovering from his third open heart surgery.

On Memorial Day, the late-night talk show host revealed that the 7-year-old needed a new valve, which his team of surgeons successfully replaced at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

“We approached this experience with a lot of optimism and almost as much fear, and in the end we came out with a new valve in a happy, healthy baby,” Kimmel captioned the photo Photo from Instagram smiling son in a hospital bed.

“Walking through this hospital, meeting parents in their most difficult moments, suffering children and miracle workers who are doing everything in their power to save them, is a humbling experience.”

The 56-year-old comedian concluded his emotional tribute by thanking “those loving strangers” who prayed for his and his wife Molly McNearney’s son, as well as their family and friends for “rallying around us to an almost absurd extent.”

“Thank you to my wife Molly for being stronger than any mom is wise to be, and to Billy, you are the toughest (and funniest) 7-year-old we know,” he concluded.

Kimmel revealed in May 2017 that Billy was be born with a curable heart condition and immediately underwent the first surgery.

“The surgery was a success,” Kimmel said on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” “It was the longest three hours of my life, but it was a success.”

Billy underwent a second open heart surgery in December 2017 and this third surgery is expected to be the last the boy will need.

Kimmel and McNearney, 46, also have a 9-year-old daughter, Jane. The Oscar host is also father to daughter Katie, 32, and son Kevin, 30, whom he shares with first wife Gina Maddy.
