Joe Jonas was keen to play Peter Parker in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man, but lost the role to Andrew Garfield.

“I remember years ago I was ready for Spider-Man and I was very, very excited, and that was the year Andrew Garfield got it,” the 33-year-old Jonas Brothers member revealed in this week’s episode Just for Variety podcast..

“Of course he was right,” the musician admitted that Garfield got the coveted role.

Jonas noted that the film’s director, Marc Webb, “was once a music video director”, which led the Grammy nominee to believe he had an “in”.

“But you know what? I love the auditioning process, putting myself out there and having to prove myself,” the singer said, adding that he went into the callback part of the auditioning process.

As to whether this included taking Spidey’s old costume for a spin, Jonas replied, “No, but I’m sure I had one that I tried on from time to time during the day.”

As for Garfield, he and Emma Stone (Gwen Stacy) – whom they dated for several years – co-starred in the 2014 film The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

The 39-year-old actor reprized his role in last year’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, starring Tom Holland alongside first Spider-Man star Tobey Maguire.

After missing out on superhero success, Jonas turned his energy into his music. But when the pandemic hit and “tours were not an option”, the singer had “plenty of time” to focus on honing his acting skills.

He credited his spouse, the “Game of Thrones” and “X-Men” star, for guiding him through the process.

“When you have a wife like Sophie Turner, who is a phenomenal actress, [being] the one who’s filming you and guiding you through it, you’ve got to bring your A-game,” he said, calling the 26-year-old his “harshest critic.”

“Yes, I’ll be a little nervous, [but she’s] super helpful,” he said, adding that he was grateful for her “honest opinion.”

Singer “Sucker” stars in war action movie “Devotion”, which is now in theaters.

Jonas and Turner got married just hours after the 2019 Billboard Music Awards at a wedding chapel in Las Vegas.

They both welcomed two daughters.
