John Gould entered the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice in January 2020 as a Prominent Professor and Dean of the School. Earlier to joining ASU, he was the founding head of the Washington Institute of Public Affairs. Also, he was chair of the Department of Justice, Law, and Criminology at American University. So, he operated as principal researcher for the Wrongful Punishment Prevention Project, a multi-year investigation program sponsored by the National Institute of Justice.

His second book, “The Innocence Commission: Preventing Wrongful Convictions and Restoring the Criminal Justice System,” was honoured as a Distinguished Scholar by the American Library Association. Professor Gould has also obtained recognition for his education and service.
