Johnny Depp can play a new role: Moonman.
The 59-year-old star of Pirates of the Caribbean is said to unexpectedly appear at the MTV Video Music Awards 2022 this weekend. according to TMZ.
The outlet reports that Depp has spoken to the show’s production team to disguise himself as the Moonman’s mascot of the network.
He is also rumored to “show his face” at some point during the broadcast, moderated by LL Cool J, Nicki Minaj and Jack Harlow on Aug. 28.
Page Six asked MTV for comment, but didn’t get a reply right away.
While Depp is reluctant to win any awards this year, he has won five Moonmen statuettes in his career, including Best Male Performance, Best Villain, Global Superstar and 2012 Generation Award.
The Global Icon Award 2022 will be awarded to Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Minaj, 39, will receive this year’s Vanguard Award.
Rapper “Super Bass” will perform at the ceremony along with characters such as Lizzo, BLACKPINK, Måneskin, Anitta, J Balvin, Marshmello x Khalid and Panic! At the disco.
Depp’s possible appearance was due just months after he won his widely publicized defamation lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard.
A Virginia jury found that 36-year-old Heard defamed Depp in Opinion on the Washington Post 2018 on sexual abuse and ordered her to pay him $ 15 million.
Depp’s career was gradually returning to normal. As previously reported on Page Six, the actor will direct and produce a film about Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani alongside Al Pacino and Barry Navidi.
Depp also signed a multi-year, seven-figure deal earlier this month to continue starring in Dior’s best-selling Sauvage cologne. TMZ reported.
The 2022 MTV VMAs begin Sunday, August 28 at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.
