Later on same summer, Nobbs was a member of the England Under-20 team that competed at the 2010 World Cup in Germany. He featured in all three of England’s matches.

Before the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Nobbs was a part of the senior England party that paid a visit to 10 Downing Street in June of that same year.

On September 19, 2012, she played against Croatia in the last UEFA Women’s Euro 2013 qualifying match at Banks’ Stadium in Walsall. This was her first call-up to the senior England side.

Leah Williamson International career

Williamson was a member of the England squad in 2018.

The teenage years

Since 2010, Williamson has competed for England at various levels of youth competition. During the 2014 UEFA Women’s Under-17 Championship, which was hosted in England during the months of November and December 2013, she served as the captain of the England under 17 team. The team ultimately finished in fourth place after being defeated by Italy in the third place play-off in a penalty shootout 3–4. In addition, she was a member of the England women’s national under-20 football team that participated in the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, which was held in Canada in August of that year. Williamson was included in England’s starting lineup for each and every match that they played. The tournament was a letdown for the team because they were unable to advance to the quarterfinals. As a result, they finished in third place in their group, with just two draws against South Korea and Mexico respectively, and a loss to Nigeria.

Situation amounting to a penalty for Norway

Williamson converted a penalty kick for her squad on April 9, 2015, in a qualifying match against Norway for the 2015 UEFA under-19 championship. The match, which had been ordered to be retaken five days after the initial competition, featured Williamson’s squad. UEFA made a decision that had never been done before, and it stated that the game should be restarted from the 96th minute onward.

Earlier, on April 4th, Williamson had a successful penalty kick for England, but it was disallowed due to player encroachment (by substitute Rosella Ayane, who had won the penalty and scored a goal in her brief cameo from the bench). In this particular scenario, the rules of the game dictate that the penalty kick should be retaken; nevertheless, the German referee, Marija Kurtes, gave Norway a free kick rather than retaking the penalty attempt. Following objections from the England team, the governing body of Europe decided that the match should be restarted from the point at which the incident occurred.

After everyone had competed in what was supposed to be their final qualifying match for the competition, the players came back to finish the final two minutes of their match. Williamson scored an equaliser for her side when Norway was leading 2–1, and by doing so, she secured a spot for her squad in the championship match of the competition.

The senior squad

Williamson was given a spot on the senior England squad in the month of November in 2017. Six minutes before the end of the senior team’s qualifying match against Russia for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, she made her first appearance for the senior squad. The team went on to win the match 3–1.
Williamson was a member of the team that prevailed over Denmark by a score of two goals to zero at Banks’ Stadium in Walsall during one of the final friendly matches they played in preparation for the World Cup.

Williamson was a member of the England team that triumphed in the 2019 tournament.

The SheBelieves Cup was held in the United States of America, and the final game featured a 3–0 victory over Japan.

In May of 2019, Williamson’s coach, Ian Wright, made the announcement on social media that Williamson had been chosen for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup roster and will be travelling to France for the competition. Williamson’s response on being chosen for the team was as follows: “After the World Cup that was held in Canada four years ago, I made it my goal, and ever since then, all I’ve ever wanted to do is be a member of this team. I have so much to be thanks for because I truly believe that I am the most fortunate young woman in the entire world.” Williamson entered the World Cup for the first time on June 23, 2019, in the Round of 16 encounter against Cameroon in Valenciennes. She did so as a substitute for the match.

On November 12, 2019, Williamson scored her first goal for England, the game-winning goal in the 86th minute, as England defeated the Czech Republic 3–2 in a friendly match.

Williamson was given the role of captain for England’s FIFA World Cup qualifying match against North Macedonia on September 17, 2021, and it was played at St. Mary’s Stadium in Southampton. On April 5, 2022, she was given the position of permanent captain of England. Williamson was a member of the England team that went on to win the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022, and she captained the team. During the entirety of the Euro 2022 competition, Williamson displayed his support for the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals by donning a rainbow “Captain” armband.

On July 31, 2022, Williamson led the Lionesses to victory over Germany in the final of the Euro 2022 tournament, which they did by a score of 2–1 after extra time. With 56 ball recovery, the English captain was the one who made the most during the competition. It had been 56 years since England had last won a major trophy prior to Williamson becoming the first captain in England’s senior men’s or women’s teams to lead England to a European trophy. Williamson led England to its first major trophy in over half a century.
