Julie Andrews shares a heartwarming message about the death of Queen Elizabeth II

From one queen to another.

After the death of Queen Elizabeth IIactress Julie Andrews released a statement in which she shared her love for the late queen, who died in Scotland on September 8. “Today marks a new chapter in history,” Andrews said in her message. “Along with millions of others, I am saddened by the passing of our beloved Queen Elizabeth II.”

The statement continued: “It feels as if we have lost a friend: a devoted monarch who inspired us all with his love, wisdom and grace. Let us honor her by living up to the standards she set for herself and her nation.”

The Princess diaries star admired the queen for decades. Back in 1948, Andrews performed the British national anthem for King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. At the age of 13, Andrews became the youngest solo artist ever to perform in the Royal Command variety show at the London Palladium, according to records. British Heritage Tour.

Most recently, in June 2022, Andrews paid tribute to the British monarch during the platinum jubilee celebrations, which marked her 70th year on the throne.
