Katie Couric “nervous” to tell her daughters about breast cancer
Katie Couric says she was “nervous” to tell her daughters that she was diagnosed with breast cancer this summer.
“I told them, but I was very comforting, but I could see it on their faces. You know, it’s just hard to get this message across, no matter how you do it, “the news presenter said when returned to the program “Today” for the Monday morning interview.
“But I assured them everything would be fine.”
Couric’s 26-year-old daughter, Carrie, accompanied the 65-year-old journalist during her tumor resection in July to remove the cancer, and even sang Sarah McLachlan’s “Angel” when her mother was brought into the operating room.
“She is so funny. … They were very supportive, ”Couric said of Carrie and Ellie, the 31 years she shared with her late husband, Jay Monahan.
Within Instagram post Encouraging its followers to go to a health screening, the self-proclaimed “screen queen” said her children were serving as “reasons” for prioritizing her health.
“Share the photo with anyone or anything that inspires you to put your health first and share it on social media using the hashtag #IScreenYouScreen,” wrote the photo of Carrie and Ellie spending time with her in Central Park. “I’ll give you back! Here are two of my reasons… what are yours? #iscreenyouscreen “.
Couric announced on September 28 – just days before the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month – that she was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer on June 21, which was also her eighth anniversary of marriage to her second husband, John Molner.
Referring to how her daughters lost Monahan to colon cancer in 1998, the author of Going There wrote in an essay: “The idea of losing another [parent] it was unfathomable. “
Couric shared on Monday Today that she “finished radiation last week” and “is fine.”
