Kim Petras shows off Britney Spears in a denim dress at the 2022 AMAs

Kim Petras showed up to show Britney Spears’ iconic 21-year-old denim dress on the 2022 AMA red carpet Sunday night.

The 30-year-old ‘Unholy’ singer was seen on the red carpet in a long strapless denim dress with a mermaid silhouette by Blumarine. The dress was studded with copper and tied at the waist.

She accessorized it with a matching denim bag from the same brand, as well as a chunky cross necklace.

Petras’ look mirrored the denim dress Spears, now in her 40s, wore to the 2001 American Music Awards.

The “Toxic” singer turned heads in a strapless denim patchwork number that hugged her curves, and was outfitted with a chain belt and a denim handbag. The pop star completed her look with a dazzling choker necklace.

Spears was famous for matching her denim look with Justin Timberlake, who wore an indigo blazer, jeans and a cowboy hat while attending a party with his then-girlfriend.

No wonder Petras took inspiration from the “Crossroads” actress. The rising star has already talked about how Spears influenced her music career.

In 2020, Petras revealed that her “Icy” music video was inspired by Spears’ “Stronger” visual, saying“It’s one of my favorite movies.”

And last year, the German-born singer told Access that she learned English by watching Spears interviews “over and over with subtitles” because she “wanted to know what she was saying.”

She added, “I’m obsessed with her.”

Petras is not the only singer who draws fashion inspiration from the Spears denim set. Camila Cabello wore a Canadian tuxedo on April’s Today show, and at the 2014 VMAs, Katy Perry and rapper Riff Raff created the perfect tribute to Spears and Timberlake’s matchup moment.
