“Labor Day” (Season 5 Episode 2) By Rookie: Recap & Review
Lucy arrives at her house with Chris, who is thankfully still alive after Rosalind cuts off his arms and leaves him dead on Lucy’s couch, in the opening scene of Episode 2 of The Rookie Season 5. An instructor from at the Undercover Academy showed up to recruit he entered the academy before they had a chance to settle down. According to Lucy, she needs some time to address some issues in her personal life. She has conflicted feelings for Bradford and feels bad about what happened to Chris, but she won’t admit it.
Chris is afraid that Lucy will not accept the offer because she will take responsibility for what happened to her. He calls Bradford and asks him to persuade Lucy to take advantage of the situation. When Bradford visits Lucy, he encourages her to take advantage of the opportunity as it will advance her career.

Introduction
Meanwhile, Bradford’s sister is in town preparing for an open house at their childhood home. After selling the house, Bradford is ready to put his traumatic background in the past. Her sister is grateful to get funds to help pay for her legal expenses as she navigates a divorce.
Wesley arrives at the DA’s office on his first day of work as a prosecutor. It wasn’t progressing as he had hoped. His supervisor asks him to pick one case to go to trial instead of constantly trying to give everyone a free pass. Lopez calls him for help in their case of a corrupt cop, who saves his day.
By stepping in to train Officer Thorsen while Harper was away on maternity leave, Nolan was given the opportunity to gain some experience as a training officer. Thorsen calls him the best training officer he’s ever had by the end of the episode, and he’s glad to have the opportunity. Nolan is approachable and has a wealth of life experience, which makes me believe he would make a fantastic training officer.
Additional information
When Nolan and Thorsen answer a request for a welfare check, they discover a police officer who appears to have killed himself. A quick preliminary investigation reveals that the policeman has been killed. Clues put Lopez and Bradford in charge of the investigation, and they uncover a corrupt group of police officers.
As Harper and James move into their new house and prepare for a home birth, James is in pre-labor. Because of her past trauma, Harper is reluctant to give birth in a hospital. They had a plan, and the hospital was only four minutes away if anything happened. When Harper shows interest in their new rowdy neighbors, James, who thought he had everything under control, is in for a big surprise.
Turns out their new neighbors aren’t always law abiding. It all started when Harper was forced to talk to them because they were playing loud music. Gunshots are heard after this, but Smitty arrives after he contacts the police. Being the lazy cop that he is, Smitty no doubt believed the neighbors when they said they were watching Dirt Harry. Smitty’s ability to hold onto his job this long amazes me.
Their feeble reasoning is rejected by Harper, who continues to observe them from his home. He watched as they put something that looked like a human body into the trunk of their car. He calls Sergeant Wade and asks him to do a background check on his neighbors. The neighbors decide to break into their house and attack them, but it’s obvious they have no idea what they’re up against.
By some miracle, Harper kills the intruder and gives birth at the same time. I understand that this sequence was meant to show his badass nature, but it was so absurd that it actually made me laugh.
The Episode Review
The decision to be honest with each other, themselves, and their relationships is what Lucy and Bradford must make. This back and forth exchange gets pretty ugly. If this uncertainty continues, Chris and Ashley will suffer damage.
But I’m glad to see Nolan working as a training officer. He has been working for this for a long time.
Wesley does a good job of trying to improve the system from within, but not every situation justifies a warning. I believe he is crazy. And, I hope he quickly finds the balance needed.
Also, I really hope we get to see James and Harper again this season because they make such a cute couple.
Recap of The Rookie’s Season 5 Episode 2
When Nolan and Thorsen go to a welfare call, they learn that a police officer has apparently committed suicide. The policeman was murdered, according to a brief preliminary inquiry. When Lopez and Bradford bring the case, the evidence points to a corrupt police gang. On the other hand, Harper and James move into their new house and prepare for a home birth while she goes into labor. After her latest encounter, Harper is sick of giving birth in a hospital.
You have a plan, and the hospital is only four minutes away if something happens. James believes he has everything under control, but when Harper takes an interest in their obnoxious new neighbors, James is shocked. The new neighbors are not the law-abiding type. When they started playing loud music, Harper was forced to talk to them.
Guns continued to follow, but when he contacted the police, Smitty appeared. As long as his job is safe, it appears that Smitty, the lazy cop, believes the neighbors when they say they’re watching Dirt Harry. Harper continues to watch her from her home because she doesn’t buy his ridiculous reasoning. He watches as they place what appears to be a human body in the trunk of their car.
He called Sergeant Wade and asked him to check the criminal histories of his neighbors. The neighbors decide to invade their home and attack them, but they clearly have no idea who they are dealing with. By some miracle, Harper kills the attacker and gives birth to a child at the same time. While I know this sequence is meant to show his toughness, it’s as absurd as it is funny.
