Lena Dunham hosts a medieval screening of “Catherine Called Birdy”
Lena Dunham compared Amazon’s “Catherine Called Birdy” festival to a bat mitzvah she never had.
“It’s amazing,” she told audiences during the medieval “Birdyfest” surrounding her new film. “Everyone who submitted it, I’m delighted.”
She jokingly added, “I didn’t have a bat mitzvah, so it seems like this is finally happening.”
Visitors to the party, which took place on Friday at The Grove, Los Angeles, were presented with a VIP picnic-style film screening followed by an engaging Renaissance fair.
Participants were treated with turkey legs, pretzels, popcorn, cotton candy, and root beer as they wandered through a variety of activities including hand massages, hair braiding, cryo-facials, and a temporary tattoo stand.
They could also make their own candles, make their own epsom bath salts, and get jewelry with their names engraved on them.
However, the highlights of the evening were tarot card readers and palm readings offered to guests, as well as aura reading.
Catherine Called Birdy, which is currently broadcast on Amazon, follows a 14-year-old girl in medieval England as she tries to avoid marriage to an elderly suitor.
The film stars former Game of Thrones star Bella Ramsey, Fleabag alum Andrew Scott and Conversations with Friends actor Joe Alwyn.
Dunham said she wrote the role with Alwyn in mind, who is dating her buddy Taylor Swift.
“He was actually the first actor to sign a contract, so I was really lucky to have him in the cast,” said the star of Girls The Hollywood Reporter. “He’s amazing in the movie.”
