For the wedding, Lopez briefly wore a simple off-the-shoulder dress that she couldn’t pull off because she was really in love with a doctor who was convinced that brown M&Ms were healthy because chocolate ones were already that color.

But the chic look made a surprise comeback in 2018 when the internet became convinced that a custom-made Givenchy dress Meghan Markle at her royal wedding to Prince Harry was inspired by Lopez’s dress in the 2001 rom-com.

“I got a lot of texts about Meghan Markle’s wedding dress,” the film’s costume designer Pam Chilton told Glamour in 2019. “I’m like, ‘Well, I’m sure it’s a coincidence.’ But when the movie came out, she was at a good romantic commission age — she could watch it during a sleepover!”
