Early Life

Mariah Carey was born on March 27, 1969 in the city of Huntington, New York, in the United States. Her moniker comes from the song “They Call the Wind Maria,” first performed in the musical Paint Your Wagon, which opened on Broadway in 1951. Patricia Carey, a former opera singer and voice teacher of Irish descent , and Alfred Roy Carey , an aeronautical engineer of African-American and black Venezuelan-American lineage, were his parents. She is the youngest of their three children and the only daughter. Alfred Roy Carey was his father. His Venezuelan grandfather, Francisco Nez, took the last name Carey after immigrating to the United States. Francisco Nez was born in New York.
