Matthew Perry talks online dating with Diane Sawyer: “That was stupid”
Matthew Perry told Diane Sawyer that he tried online dating but “quit quickly” because he was “stupid”.
When asked by a TV presenter if he had given dating apps a chance, he said, “I went and then quit quickly, that was stupid.”
As for why he had problems in the love department, he attributed it to his insecurity.
“It was a combination of a feeling that I wasn’t enough, that I was needy, that I didn’t matter, so I would be in relationships that were going great – with great women, fun, intelligent, great – and mine. I was scared of my subconscious and broke up with them because I was afraid they would find out about these three things and destroy me, he told Sawyer.
However, he managed to overcome his trust issues by going to therapy after learning that he didn’t have to make a woman laugh to keep her in his life.
“I know what it is now and I don’t suffer from it anymore,” he added.
The actor who promotes his upcoming memories, “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Scary Thing”, which will be released on November 1, previously talked about how his insecurity always pushed him to end any relationship.
He said GQ on Thursday, “I’m breaking up with them, because I’m scared that they will find out that it’s not enough, that I don’t matter, that I’m too needy, and they will break up with me and it will destroy me and I will have to take drugs and it will kill me. .
“That’s why I’m breaking up with these wonderful women who have crossed my path.”
Perry – who previously mentioned that his drug abuse was so severe he was close to death – further noted that there are 10 women who would “kill to marry” but have since moved on with another man.
“And you shouldn’t look in the rearview mirror or you’ll crash the car then,” he added. “But I looked in the rearview mirror and thought everyone was gone. Everyone is happy, which is great, but it’s me sitting alone in the cinema room. And there is no more lonely moment.
Before opening up about his insecurity, the actor – who dated Cameron Diaz, Julia Roberts, and even kissed Valerie Bertinelli – also confessed that he believed every woman was looking for his money after being burned previously.
“It scared me” said the People. “That’s what I’m manifesting, something that’s wrong with them. And then I break up with them.
He continued, “But there can’t be something wrong with all of them. I am the common denominator. I left first because I thought they were going to annihilate me. “
Now the sober actor has confessed that he has “been burned several times by women who wanted” his money, which “happens more often than you think.”
Perry was briefly engaged to the literary manager Molly Hurwitz. However, the couple announced they would be breaking up in June 2021.
