Matthew Perry’s Death, Feds Investigate Source of Ketamine
Matthew Perry’s death remains under investigation as law enforcement officials examine ketamine found in his system.
Local police and federal agents are trying to determine where the actor purchased the drug before his October 2023 death. according to TMZ.
The website reported Tuesday that authorities were interviewing people with a history of drug abuse for information about the source of information about Perry.
No arrests have been made.
Two months after Perry was found unconscious in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home, his autopsy report has been released.
As revealed in December 2023 by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office, the “Friends” alum died at the age of 54 due to “acute effects of ketamine.”
Drowning, coronary artery disease and the effects of buprenorphine were cited as other contributing factors.
At the time, Dr. Bankole Johnson speculated to Page Six that Perry “more than likely” obtained the ketamine illegally for “recreational use.”
The medical expert explained that “it would be a questionable medicine” and also “a real recipe for disaster… providing ketamine to someone who is also using buprenorphine,” a synthetic opioid used to treat addiction.
Although Perry was being treated with ketamine for anxiety and depression, the autopsy report concluded that “the ketamine in his system at the time of death could not have been from infusion therapy” due to its half-life of three to four hours or less.
Los Angeles Police Department confirmed People in January that they were no longer investigating Perry’s death.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner also deemed the case “closed” at that time.
Perry’s “Friends” co-stars have continued to honor him since his death.
