Maya Rudolph “didn’t have a good time” when she appeared on “The Late Show with David Letterman” in 2009.

“He pronounced my name wrong and I just sat there like I had fallen in love with you all my life.” And now my heart is broken. And I’m sitting here ashamed and humiliated ” The 50-year-old star “Bridesmaid” told WSJ. magazine in an interview published on Friday.

Rudolph – who rose to fame after joining Saturday Night Live in 1999 – noted that early in her career she struggled with interviews and red carpet appearances.

“It always felt like someone was stealing my soul,” she explained. “That’s where I built a personality over the years to protect myself.”

The comedian added, “I’ve definitely improved. When I feel uncomfortable, I try to be funny. “

Despite decades in the spotlight, Rudolph still doesn’t consider himself a celebrity.

“I know I’m a working actor and people know who I am, but I don’t feel like a star because the word means something different to me today,” she said.

“There are many different types of celebrities these days and a lot of self-styled celebrities that people are known to be famous for, and that’s not what I do.”

Rudolph was pregnant during her 2009 appearance on Letterman. Today she shares the children Pearl, 17, Lucille, 12, Jack, 11 and Minnie, 9, with partner Paul Thomas Anderson.

During a conversation with WSJ. The actress explained that she is making joint efforts to prioritize her family, no matter how busy the work is.

“Believe me, I am not Pollyanna who is like, I smile all day, every day. I get stressed, nervous, but I’ve learned that I can make a choice myself and it’s liberating, ”she said.

“Maybe people who have worked as long as I have made different choices and have nicer cars. I don’t know, but it’s very important to me [try to] have that balance. “
