Meredith Marks on Jen Shah’s filming of “RHOSLC” in a fraud case
Maybe she should have disengaged?
Meredith Marks believes Jen Shah made Salt Lake City Real Housewives “risky” when her fraud case came to light.
“Whether you’re guilty or not, it’s so easy to say something that can be turned around to incriminate you,” the 50-year-old reality show star said Wednesday. Podcast “#NoFilter with Zack Peter”.
“And I just think it’s kinda scary. I think it’s really brave that she stayed. Yes, she continued. “I don’t think I could under those circumstances.”
Last month, 48-year-old Shah pleaded guilty when she appeared before US district judge Sidney Stein in federal court in Manhattan, reversing her previous acquittal plea.
As part of the settlement, she pleaded guilty, on the one hand, to conspiracy to commit a telemarketing fraud, while an American lawyer agreed to dismiss a second charge against her, a conspiracy to launder money.
Shah’s attorney, Priya Chaudhry, previously told Page Six that the last-minute allegation was made because Shah “wants to pay off his debt to society and leave that torment to her and her family.”
The Shah faces a maximum of 30 years in prison and five years of supervised release. However, the settlement only required 11 to 14 years behind bars and restitution to $ 9.5 million.
Before the second count was rejected, she faced 50 years in prison. Her sentence was in November.
Shah allegedly they deceived hundreds of people out of money through a nationwide telemarketing program. Her arrest in March 2021 was documented in Season 2 of “RHOSLC”.
Page six only reported that Bravo cameras were following Shah leading to her performance in court in July, although season 3 technically ended production earlier this year.
Marx and RHOSLC star Heather Gay met Shah in New York City prior to the pre-trial hearing to show support. Both women got closer to the battle-torn Bravolebrity during the filming of the latest installment of the series.
Marx, who attended Northwestern University law school, showed her loyalty on social media the night before the trial, writing that “in the United States, everyone has a right to a trial and is presumed innocent until proven guilty.”
The jewelry designer explained her intentions behind the post with host Zack Peter.
“Honestly, I had a post on my Instagram feed, a photo of me, Heather and Jen, and there were a lot of really nasty comments calling Jen a criminal and so on,” she said.
“It may be so, if you want to say it now, but when someone has pleaded not guilty and has not had a trial, it is not up to me or anyone other than a jury on the case – as it was scheduled to be a jury trial – to do so. decisions”.
Marx noted that she was “frustrated” by the hatred of the Shah. “Because I have a law degree, and to me, it just seemed to me that this was not what our law said,” she explained. “So let’s explain what our law says.”
Marx admitted that she was “surprised” by last-minute pleas from the Shah, who had declared her innocent both on television and in court.
“Of course I am surprised. I think probably everyone is surprised, ”she said. “I don’t think anyone expected that.”
A mental health attorney who spent most of his vacation in Europe added that she and Shah had not spoken on the phone since pleading guilty.
“We wrote a little, but I didn’t talk to her,” revealed Marx. “I was out of the country and her eldest son had settled in med school, so I didn’t actually speak to her.”
