White Lotus creator Mike White tearfully admitted that he wasn’t there for friends and family during the production of the second season of HBO.
“I know there are some people I haven’t passed for who my friends and family are for,” he told the audience at the premiere in Los Angeles on Thursday night.
Choking back tears, he added, “I’ve just completely gone and I’m AWOL, so I just want to thank you for being with me.”
White specifically called his mother, who was present at the event, for being his “rock”.
During his short speech before the show at Goya Studios, White joked that he was always worried about getting bored of the audience with his speeches, but this was his moment to thank the people.
“I definitely want to go into the cast because the cast is amazing,” he said. “They’re amazing and they’ve done a great job, but I also don’t feel sorry for the cast.”
He joked, “The cast had a good time. They were in Italy, they got to the party. So I’m happy with the cast, but you will get rewards anyway.
He then thanked many of the crew for their hard work, admitting that there were many “long” and “intense” days.
After the screening, guests – including cast members Jennifer Coolidge, Aubrey Plaza, Theo James, F. Murray Abraham, Adam DiMarco and Meghann Fahy – celebrated the new season at Mother Wolf, Italy’s Hollywood hotspot.
The restaurant served lamb skewers, pumpkin flowers, risotto croquettes and pizza while participants danced to the tune played by Este Haim.
Este sisters, Alana Haim and Danielle Haim, as well as “A League of Their Own” stars Kelly McCormack and Kate Berlant were also present.
The second season of “White Lotus”, which premieres on October 30 on HBO, takes place in Sicily, Italy, and follows a new cast of well-to-do characters at a fictional luxury resort. Coolidge is the only cast member to reprise her role from season one.
