Britney Spears is still a Selenator.
40-year-old pop superstar explained in Wednesday’s Instagram post that a recent social media message – in which she criticized women for judging other women – wasn’t directed at Selena Gomez.
“Let me explain how I share my beliefs about women judging other women on their own right to express themselves,” Spears began.
Her signature accompanied a drawing of a silhouette of a woman, which read: “A strong woman stands up for herself. A stronger woman stands up for everyone else.
She continued, “What I said had nothing to do with anyone in particular … it was clearly a topic all women had to deal with … look, I’m back with the music !!! I honestly refer to my times when I was younger, when I was severely discriminated against … men in interviews discussing my breasts on live TV or showing my belly and skin !!! If anyone knows what it feels like, I’m sure Selena went through something similar.
Social media users guessed that Spears’s original post was aimed at 30-year-old Gomez, based on a speech the latter made at the 2016 American Music Awards.
Gomez in particular told the young girls that “[didn’t want to see [their] body ”on Instagram.
‘Toxic’ singer – who frequently goes nude on social media app – has apparently turned down 2020 “Ice Cream” music video Gomez was shooting with the K-pop group Blackpink.
“They say,” This is NOT something I would do, “but these women are the ones who get $ 4 million in movies about sucking and licking homemade ice cream !!!!” she argued, adding that women should decide how they want to “show off” their “beautiful bodies”.
On Wednesday, Spears explained that her “ice cream” comment was related to Kelis’s 2004 music video for “Milkshake,” a project she praised for its flawless display of sexuality.
“And I honestly replied that Kelis in the MILKSHAKE movie where women finally shook their asses… it was a moment in history where people woke up to this fact… pushing the boundaries of self-expression became clear… lots of people were offended! !! ” Grammy winner wrote.
“I let women express their bodies the way they want… and TONS of other stars who had million dollar movies that were known told about her when she was the new artist who tried to do it !!! Sorry for my ignorance, but I haven’t even seen the Ice Cream video that was made by Selena Gomez, who I really admire and respect so much.
Spears also shared the joy she felt when Gomez attended her star-studded wedding with her husband Sam Asghari.
“As for the beautiful Queen Gomez, I was surprised on my wedding day and I was absolutely delighted with her !!!” She wrote. “I mean, I played the DJ for 5 minutes like an idiot and played my favorite song” Bad Liar “LOUD on the dance floor like a 6 year old fan and I could sing my favorite song with it and I wanted to get a goddamn pinch !!!”
Spears developed: “I would like to tell Selena who probably doesn’t even know about junk news that her music has gone through a lot and thank you again for making my dreams come true by coming to my wedding … you are the only one I have always wanted to meet and my dream it came true and I will never forget it !!! ”
Gomez has yet to respond to Spears’s posts. However, it looks like she might take some time off to rest as she announced Wednesday through her Instagram story that she tested positive for COVID-19.
Gomez has long considered Spears an idol. Meanwhile, Spears has expressed mutual admiration over the years – and even cited Gomez’s 2015 album Revival as the inspiration for her latest studio album, 2016’s Glory.
