Early life
Coyle was born on June 15, 1985 in the city of Derry, Northern Ireland to parents Lillian and Niall Coyle. When she was only two years old, her parents first became aware of her gift for singing when they heard her perform The Drifters’ “Saturday Night at the Movies”. Although she wasn’t busy with her schoolwork, Coyle did well academically. She made a demo CD which she sent to Louis Walsh and The Late Late Show to submit for consideration. Cover versions of the songs “Fields of Gold”, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and “Love Is” as well as the aria “Summertime” were included on the CD.
Career
2001: Pop Stars
In 2001, while still a student at Thornhill College, Coyle dabbled in the Irish adaptation of the talent contest reality show Popstars. One of the judges on this show was Louis Walsh. It was eventually discovered that she had lied about her age in order to get into the band Six, but not before she had already secured a spot in the band. She was just 16 years old, two years younger than the required minimum age of 18, which was 18 years old. Coyle claimed that RTÉ “exploited” them in some way. On her return she enrolled at Thornhill College in Derry.

Walsh persuaded Coyle to appear in Popstars: The Rivals, the second UK series in the Popstars franchise to be broadcast internationally. The purpose of the competition was to select a boy band and a women’s group of five members each, who then competed in a ‘battle of the sexes’ to see who could claim number one on the UK Singles Chart during the holiday season. Thousands and thousands of hopefuls turned out at auditions across the UK in hopes of being selected. The three judges, Geri Halliwell, Pete Waterman and Walsh, each selected ten boys and ten girls to compete in the final round. Thereafter, these finalists would take the stage and take part in the weekly live performances, which took place on Saturday nights (alternating weekly between girls and boys). After she finished her performance of “Walsh,” she told her that her “performance of the night” was “Fields of Gold,” which she had just performed. Stole the show from me,” while another judge, Halliwell, commented that she “would love to buy a single from you.” “.
Coyle, Cheryl Tweedy, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh are the other members of the new female group Girls Aloud, formed by the show by popular vote on November 30, 2002. Coyle is the fifth member of the group. The group’s first single, “Sound of the Underground”, became the most popular song in the UK during the 2002 Christmas season after reaching the highest possible position on the UK Singles Chart. The time it took Aloud to rise to number one after the band formed is the fastest on record. In May 2003, the band released their first studio album entitled Sound of the Underground. The album debuted at number two on the charts and was certified platinum by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) later that same year. They reached number one on the charts with the singles “I’ll Stand by You”, “Walk This Way” and “The Promise”. Her greatest hits album entitled The Sound of Girls Aloud and her 2008 album entitled Out of Control both debuted at number one in the UK Albums Chart. The first of these two albums has sold over a million copies, while the latter has sold less than half that amount. They also have seven albums that have been certified by the RIAA and nominated for five Brit Awards, taking home Best Single for “The Promise” in 2009.
Pop music is the group’s signature sound, although they have also explored electro-pop and dance-pop as musical avenues throughout their career. Girls Aloud received accolades from music critics for their creative approach to popular pop music, made possible by the group’s collaboration with Brian Higgins and his songwriting and production team, Xenomania. By May 2010 the band had amassed a fortune of £30m making them one of the most successful artists on reality television in the UK. They are recognized as “Most Successful Reality TV Group” in the 2007 edition of Guinness World Records. They also hold the record for ‘Top Ten Consecutive Entries by a Female Group in the UK’ from the 2008 edition, and they are again recognized for ‘Most Successful Reality TV Group’ from the 2011 edition. Both records were set in Great Britain. With over 4.3 million singles sold and 4 million albums sold in the UK alone, the group has been recognized as the best selling girl group of the 21st century in the UK.
Personal life
Coyle had a cancer fear when she discovered a tumor in her breast when she was 17.
Coyle moved all his belongings from Northern Ireland to Los Angeles, California in 2006. This led to her constantly commuting between the US and UK for her endeavors with Girls Aloud and as a solo artist. In 2008, while living in Los Angeles, Coyle opened an Irish bar-restaurant in Sunset Beach, California called Nadine’s Irish Mist as a family business that would allow family members to live near her and assist her in running the business . According to the Sunday Times Rich List in 2013, her estimated value at the time was £6million.
On August 15, 2013, Coyle announced on her Instagram account that she was expecting a child. She also revealed her reconnection with ex-fiancé Jason Bell, who is the father of her baby. Their daughter, Anaíya Bell, was born on February 10, 2014.
Coyle returned to Northern Ireland in 2015 to raise their daughter Anaya after she closed Nadine’s Irish Mist in Los Angeles in 2015. The restaurant has been in operation for nine years. She stated that she decided to close the restaurant as the business was becoming an increasing burden on her busy family members and that she was tired of being approached by film and television makers who wanted to use the restaurant for their projects. She also mentioned feeling nostalgic for Northern Ireland while living in Los Angeles.
Coyle and Bell split in 2019 “due to their increasingly distant lives” as Bell stayed in the United States while Coyle returned to Northern Ireland. Despite this, Bell and Anaya were living together in Northern Ireland in 2021 so Bell could share parental responsibility for Anaya despite the COVID-19 epidemic.
