Nicole Brown Simpson’s sisters remember her legacy at the event
Nicole Brown Simpson’s sisters, Denise, Dominique and Tanya, continue to carry on their sister’s legacy and help other women who experience domestic violence.
On Thursday, the trio took the stage at Variety Power of Women at the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum in New York, where Denise noted, “We lost Nicole almost 30 years ago.”
Nicole and her friend Ron Goldman were murdered on June 12, 1994. She was 35 years old and Goldman was only 25. Brown called the police several times about OJ Simpson, her husband from 1985 to 1992.
“Nicole went through incredible pain and through that pain she was able to protect her children,” Denise told attendees. “She left her abuser. She was a daughter, she was a sister, she was a mother, she was a friend, she was a woman whose life was tragically cut short.”
The Nicole sisters took part in a new Lifetime documentary series called “The Life and Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson,” which airs in June.
“I’ve been wanting to make a documentary for 10 years but never felt like the time was right” – Denise he previously told Variety. “I thought if I could find someone who could make Nicole’s voice heard and not focus on the process or him, I would be happy.”
She further explained, “It was extremely sad when people told me, ‘We don’t even know what her voice sounds like.’ It broke my heart because no one gave her that opportunity.
Denise also discussed the Violence Against Women Act, which she helped pass, with guests including Glenn Close, Nicky Hilton, Tamron Hall and Melissa Joan Hart.
The Simpson case, often called the “trial of the century,” has made headlines again since OJ died last month of metastatic prostate cancer.
Producer Shonda Rhimes (Law & Order: Special Ops), star Mariska Hargitay, singer Anitta and Amy Schumer were honored at the event, hosted by comedian Amber Ruffin.
