This synopsis of Once Upon a Time in a Small Town episode 6 contains spoilers.

Episode 6 of Once Upon a Small Town begins with a look at Ji-trauma yul and how he lost his parents in a terrible accident many years ago. Back in the present, Ji-yul pulls Ja-young out of the rubble just as her father did years before.

Ji-yul watches over Ja-young in the hospital while she lies unconscious. Just as he is about to take her hand, Sang-hyeon appears and thanks Ji-yul for helping his friend. Ji-yul leaves the hospital looking sad because Sang-hyeon is there, while Ja-young wakes up from her sleep and tells Sang-hyeon that she is fine.

When she asks how he got there, he tells her that Ji-yul told the police about the accident and helped her get to the hospital. He then makes fun of her by saying that she owes the doctor his kindness. Ji-yul leaves without saying anything when she sees how close she and Sang-hyeon are as he helps her out of the hospital and to his car.

At home, Ja-young tries to thank Ji-yul, but she can’t find the right words. At the peach farm, Sang-hyeon thinks about the time he saw Ji-yul waiting for him in the hospital parking lot. Ji-yul also came up with ideas of his own.

The next day, Ja-Boss Young takes her off work so she can rest, and she uses the time to thank Ji-yul for what he did the day before. But Ji-yul isn’t at the vet clinic, so she leaves them some popsicles on their way to another neighbor’s. After the events of the last day, Ji-yul went to the columbarium for his parents.

Ja-young and Ji-yul bump into each other on the way home, which is embarrassing for both of them. After initial confusion, Ja-young begins to thank him for his help, but has to stop as he receives a very important call. As Ja-young Ji-fading looks at Yul’s car, Sang-hyeon picks her up and they talk again about the things they did with Majeong. Later, when she brings up what he said about how he feels about her, he cheerfully asks her to think about it some more.

Ji-yul goes to an old man’s house to see how his bull is doing. The bull is not well and the man wants Ji-yul to put an end to his suffering by putting him to sleep. The bull hasn’t eaten in a month. When the people of Majeong and Huidong meet that night, a fight erupts against them.

The people of Majeong call Ja-young uncultured because she has no parents, but Ji-yul must make the difficult decision of finding the right medicine to ease the bull’s pain and end his suffering. Sang-hyeon tries to help Ja-young, albeit for a short time.

Ji-yul helps the bull cross the street to clear her head. The old man’s kind words to his longtime friend make the vet cry. Later, the man talks to Ji-yul about his parents and it turns out that he was the one who took care of Ji-yul when his parents died. They kind of hit it off because of the bad things that have happened to each of them, and the old man tells them that the people we’ve lost will always come back to us in some way.

The end of Episode 6 of Once Upon a Small Town

But just before Ji-yul leaves, the man says that he used to play with Ja-young when they were kids. This brings back a lot of memories and helps Ji-yul understand things even better. He finds her sitting by the river and thinks back to when they were kids and Ja-young was his friend and helped him get over the loss of his parents.

Ji-yul and Ja-young look at each other as memories of their childhood flood in. They are right in front of the place where they used to be.

Review of Once Upon a Time in a Small Town Episode 6

Now that no one is being forced to do anything they don’t want to do, episode 6 turned out to be a very heartwarming episode. Most of the audience was probably waiting for Ji-yul to finally remember Ja-young, and I have to say I really liked how they told the story to him. I almost cried when I saw this old man with the bull. It makes sense that he knows Ji-yul and his relationship with Ja-young from all those years ago.

Overall I really enjoyed watching this episode, even if it really made me cry.

production team

In August 2021, Choi Soo-young and Jang Keun-suk became the first two actors offered the lead roles in the series. It wasn’t until later in September 2021 that it was discovered that it didn’t really work. In May 2022, it was decided that Choo Young-woo would play the role of Han Ji-yul, a Seoul native veterinarian, and Park Soo-young would play the role of Ahn Ja-young, a local police officer, as the two main characters of the series. Later in May, Baek Seong-cheol joined the cast as Lee Sang-hyeon, a handsome young farmer.

Because the series was filmed in a rural setting and animals were involved, the production team took precautions to ensure everyone’s safety throughout the process, from scripting to actual filming. They did this by consulting with veterinarians. The entire shooting with animal participation took place in the company of a trained veterinarian and an experienced animal caretaker. The production staff revealed, “All animal contact props have been carefully made from silicone to ensure their safety and anything that could potentially be dangerous has been excluded as much as possible.”
