The parents of professional golfer Grayson Murray have revealed that he died by suicide on Saturday, news of his death.

“We have spent the last 24 hours trying to come to terms with the fact that our son is gone.” – Eric and Terry Murray – wrote in the statement provided by PGA Tour Sunday.

“It’s surreal that we not only have to admit this to ourselves, but also to the world. It’s a nightmare.”

They continued: “We have so many unanswered questions.”

Grayson’s parents added that their son was surrounded by the love of his siblings, extended family, friends and fans.

“Life wasn’t always easy for Grayson and although he took his own life, we know he now rests peacefully,” they continued.

The two-time PGA Tour winner died on Saturday confirmed in a statement from the organization’s commissioner, Jay Monahan.

“We were devastated to learn – and heartbroken to share – that PGA Tour player Grayson Murray passed away this morning. I’m lost for words,” Monahan wrote.

“The PGA Tour is a family and when you lose a family member, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for the comfort of his loved ones.”

News of Grayson’s death came a day after he withdrew from the Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas.

He competed in two rounds before withdrawing due to illness.

Grayson has had this before he talked about his addiction to alcohol and mental health issues after winning the Sony Open in Hawaii in January.

“It’s not easy. Many times I wanted to give up. Give up. Give up playing golf. Sometimes give up on life,” he said.

Grayson then thanked his fiancée, Christiana Ritchie, for helping him through difficult times.

“When you get tired of fighting, let someone else fight for you,” he added.

Grayson also marveled at how “good” life has treated him during his career resurgence, saying, “I wouldn’t trade anything.”

He added: “I have a beautiful fiancée. I have beautiful parents. I have beautiful nephews and siblings.

“Everyone in my life who is close to me now and who has gone through struggles with me, it’s all a team effort. “I’m not sitting here – I’m sitting here alone, but they’re all part of it.”

After the Sony Open, Grayson announced that he was eight months sober.

He previously condemned the 2021 PGA Tour for failing to offer help to combat alcoholism.

“No, the PGA Tour didn’t make me drink. but the pga tour never helped me. “In my five years on the road, I have never once had a request from a commissioner or PAC other than “we will call you back,” he wrote in a now-deleted tweet.

“I hope that not only does the PGA Tour make progress in the areas it needs to improve, but I also hope that people are held accountable for the roles they serve.”
