Whether you agree with it or not, every few years horrific serial killer stories are unearthed from the horrific depths of the past and brought to the screens of our entertainment centers. Richard Ramirez, a rapist and serial killer who tormented California residents from 1984-85, is the focus of the documentary series Night Stalker: The Hunt For a Serial Killer, which will premiere on Netflix in 2021. (who did a pretty good job of highlighting his victims’ stories).
Notorious serial killer and rapist Ted Bundy (let’s not even get his looks from 1974-1978), who went on a multi-state killing spree, rose to cultural relevance in 2019 with the release of the documentary Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes Netflix and the biopic Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile. Bundy went on a killing spree in several states between 1974 and 1978
Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, a miniseries directed by Ryan Murphy and produced by Netflix, will tell the story of one of history’s most notorious and disturbing serial killers and rapists: Jeffrey Dahmer. This time it’s Dahmer who comes to life on the small screen.
Who will take on the role of the abominable Jeffrey? The one and only Evan Peters, a familiar face in the universe of Ryan Murphy (American Horror Story). And despite the fact that the show is meant to portray his story, which includes cannibalism, attempted zombification, and necrophilia, the reality is far more chilling than anything the show has to offer. More specifically, the atrocities discovered in Jeffrey’s refrigerator in Milwaukee in 1991 are enough to change a person completely. Let’s take a spooky field trip inside and beyond Jeffrey’s fridge.

Phantasms were found in serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer’s refrigerator
In July 1991, AP News reported that a handcuffed and distraught man led police to Jeffrey’s fly-infested apartment. The apartment swarmed with fragments of human bodies and boasted a refrigerator full of human heads – three of them, to be precise. Jeffrey was arrested and charged with multiple first-degree murders. It was reported in several media publications that the refrigerator also contained human hearts.
Jeffrey, also known as the Milwaukee Cannibal, took great delight in conducting experiments on his victims’ bodies while they were still alive. He even drilled holes in his victims’ skulls and injected hydrochloric acid into their brains. Jeffrey’s behavior earned him the nickname “Milwaukee Cannibal”. The former chocolate factory worker’s insane plan to construct a sex slave zombie inevitably led to the former worker’s death. Jeffrey’s hobbies are a little less surprising given that he was fascinated with inspecting the remains of dead animals from a young age. (We slightly stressed the word.)
According to a report in The Milwaukee Sentinel, cited by AP News, “Police found 11 skulls in a filing cabinet, closet, refrigerator and freezer in the man’s bedroom.” In addition, “Police discovered three headless torsos in a vat in the man’s bedroom.” A large number of graphic images and sketches of various body parts of the victims were also discovered.
The horrid slaughterhouse that was Jeffrey’s apartment understandably reeked of death, leading to neighbors complaining of a foul odor for a year or so. This led to Jeffrey’s eviction. Jeffrey, who was clearly charming and intelligent, often found a way to talk his way out of trouble. This time, however, he claimed that his refrigerator wasn’t working, causing the meat inside to go bad.
It was police officer Rolf Müller who discovered the three severed heads in the refrigerator. He also said that the smell in the apartment was overwhelming. So that is not up for debate.
At the time, he made the following observation: “You think you’ve seen everything out here, and then something like this happens.”
Although Jeffrey was killed on November 29, 1994 by a fellow Columbia Correctional Institution inmate named Christopher Scarver, his life still haunts and fascinates people to this day, and that’s true whether it was for the better or not. After we finish this one, we will have a difficult time opening our fridges. Maybe we could just go to the cupboard in the kitchen instead.
