Mumbai, Sep 25 (IANS) Mani Ratnam’s upcoming film ‘Ponniyin Selvan-1’ oozes sovereignty as it involves authentic gold ornaments for its characters and plans to recall the small subtleties of the Chola time. frame.
The film, in light of Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1955 novel of the same name, tells the story of the beginnings of Arulmozhivarman, who later became the peerless Chola ruler Rajaraja Chola I.

Discussing the plan of the film’s jewels, the film’s director, Mani Ratnam said in a discussion with IANS: “We have given the clothes an extraordinary emphasis so that they are believable and lend the outright credibility to the period yet exude a sense of sovereignty. .We were very lucky that Kishandas (the jeweler) was enthusiastic about us and we worked with real gold ornaments.”
He added: “The craftsmen have worked out the small subtleties of the Chola time frame and made the adornments well defined for the characters.”
