Prince Harry can now wear a military uniform to the Queen’s vigil after refusal
Prince Harry will be wearing his military uniform when he attends a special vigil for Queen Elizabeth II this Saturday, Page Six confirmed.
The source only tells Page Six that Harry – who had previously been told he couldn’t wear a military uniform – did not ask for a change.
“He was just prepared to wear whatever his grandmother planned. The focus is on honoring her and that’s it. If they would like him in uniform, I have no reason to believe he will disagree, ”says our source.
Source said The Daily Mirror, who first announced the news on Thursday that it was primarily a “ridiculous situation”.
“The Duke of Sussex has served his country and is a very respected member of the armed forces with all he has done for the veterans,” a source told the newspaper. “It is important that all of the Queen’s grandchildren feel welcome and comfortable as they mourn their beloved grandmother together.”
The queen’s eight grandchildren, including Prince William and Harry, are expected to stand on Saturday night on a 15-minute vigil next to their grandmother’s coffin.
The Queen’s other grandchildren, including Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, Zara and Peter Philips, and Lady Louise and James, Viscount Severn, will also attend the Westminster Hall vigil.
It is unclear if Harry was allowed to wear military uniform also at the funeral on Monday.
Earlier this week, it was announced that Harry and his disgraced uncle, Prince Andrew, would not be allowed to wear military uniforms to the Queen’s funeral on September 19.
The 38-year-old Duke of Sussex was stripped of his military titles when he abandoned royal life in 2020 and moved to California with his wife Meghan Markle.
Prince Andrzej was there forced to leave public life in 2019, after disastrous interview with the BBC in which he defended his friendship with the infamous financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and claimed that he had never met his sexual abuse accuser Virginia Giuffre. He later threw away millions of dollars settle a civil case with Giuffre.
As only Page Six reports, Harry – who had made two trips to the front lines in Afghanistan – was “saddened” by the decision.

“Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex will wear a morning suit to his grandmother’s parties,” a Sussexes spokesman said Tuesday in a statement to Page Six.
“His decade of military service is not determined by the uniform he wears, and we respectfully ask that you focus on the life and legacy of Her Majesty Elizabeth II.”
