Queen Elizabeth II’s body leaves Balmoral on its way to Windsor
Bittersweet homecoming.
The body of the late Queen Elizabeth II left Balmoral on Sunday, marking the start of a nine-day farewell journey to her final resting place in Windsor.
Her Majesty’s body left the Scottish Castle at 10am local time and was slowly transported 175 miles to the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh.
On the streets of the Scottish city, onlookers stood silently watching the caravan pass by.
“A sad and touching moment when Her Majesty the Queen leaves her beloved Balmoral for the last time” Scotland’s First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, tweeted on Sunday.
“Today, on the way to Edinburgh, Scotland will pay tribute to an extraordinary woman.”
According to Sky NewsA storm of applause erupted from the crowd of thousands as the Queen’s coffin arrived in Dundee.
On Tuesday, the Queen’s daughter, Princess Anna, escorts her mother’s body by plane to London. Upon arriving in the British capital, he will spend his last night at Buckingham Palace, with his coffin placed in the fore room until Wednesday.
It will then be mounted on a tow truck for a public funeral procession commanded by the Royal Horse Artillery of the King Charles III Division.
